Garries Cottage
Cumberland
Garries Cottage sits on 10 acres of gardens and meadow above Bassenthwaite village, in the Skiddaw foothills. The location offers immediate access to woodland and fell walks of varying difficulty; Skiddaw itself is reachable from the door, as are gentler routes through surrounding farmland. Keswick and Cockermouth are within reasonable driving distance, and a pub lies just over a mile away.
The cottage has two bedrooms (one double, one with two singles), a bathroom with bath and shower, and a ground-floor open-plan living space with an original stone fireplace and beams. The kitchen overlooks the rear garden, where red squirrels and woodpeckers are regular visitors. Elevation gives views across Bassenthwaite Lake to the surrounding fells and, westward, dramatic sunsets. Essentials including electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered; fuel for the open fire is also provided. One dog is welcome. Two cars can park on site, and there is a bike store. No smoking.
The cottage works for families or groups needing a self-contained base for exploring the northern lakes and fells without the crowds of the busier valleys.
