Katellen Cottage works well for families and small groups wanting a Lake District base without fuss. The property sleeps six across two bedrooms—a king and a double—plus a sofa bed in the main living area. Everything is on the ground floor, which matters if anyone has mobility concerns; there are six steps to the entrance and two within the garden itself.

The layout centres on a single open-plan space combining living, dining and kitchen areas, with a multi-fuel burner as the focal point. High ceilings and exposed beams let in plenty of light, and windows on three sides frame views across the valley to Blencathra. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, dishwasher and washing machine, so self-catering is straightforward. One wet room serves the bedrooms. Essentials—electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi—are included, along with initial fuel for the burner.

Outside, an enclosed lawn with patio gives children a safe place to play while adults relax with the views. Bike storage accommodates four cycles; numerous routes run through the area both on and off road. For walkers, Thirlmere reservoir lies four miles away at the base of Helvellyn. One well-behaved pet is welcome. The cottage is non-smoking.
