The ground floor of Kirkfell Cottage unfolds across several distinct spaces: a living room with woodburner and comfortable seating (no television), a separate second living room with a 55-inch smart TV and another fire, and a dining room where you can gather as a group. The kitchen is fitted for actual cooking—induction hob, range cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer—and there's a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer for longer stays. A boot room and storage complete the downstairs layout.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, each with a kingsize bed, and two bathrooms: one with a walk-in shower, the other with a cubicle shower. Oil central heating keeps things warm, and fuel for both wood burners is included. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are provided as standard. There's private parking for three cars on site, a bike store, and a rear garden with terrace, garden furniture and barbecue. A highchair and stairgate are available, and a welcome pack awaits your arrival. The cottage does not permit smoking.
Located in the Vale of Lorton between Cockermouth and the high fells, it sits within reach of Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater, with Keswick also nearby. The setting suits walkers, cyclists and families wanting a self-contained base for exploring the western Lakes.

Kirkfell Cottage is simply stunning! The cottage is set in a beautiful peaceful area away from the crowds. We have been to The Lakes many times over the years but never to the Lorton area - it is definitely a very special place. The cottage is beautifully laid out and furnished - loved the map wall! Immaculately clean. The welcome pack and pantry are lovely touches. We loved watching the birds on the feeder in the beautiful garden. Made use of the games and real fire in the snug room in the evening and having the washing machine was a real bonus. Polly and James are such lovely welcoming hosts. Polly took our food order in for us to the cottage when we had lots of delays on our journey to The Lakes. James gave us some great help in deciding our walks as we simply had too many we wanted to do for the number of days we stayed! We can highly recommend the peaks of Red Pike, High Stile and High Crag from Buttermere (this is a very long/high route but glorious). Also thoroughly enjoyed Low Fell and Loweswater. We had glorious weather and enjoyed swimming at Crummock Water (walking in to the beach across the fields from by the phone box near Loweswater meant having the beach almost to ourselves - again a great tip from James). The cycle tracks at Whinlatter nearby are great (there is a good bike hire). We also enjoyed the Lake District Wildlife Park. Eat at at The Kirkstile Inn - food was really good and hearty. Definitely need to book as clearly very popular. We would not hesitate to return to Kirkfell Cottage and definitely have fallen for this beautiful area.

We absolutely loved staying at Kirkfell Cottage. The perfect mix of traditional cute cottage, comfort, practicality and style. We stayed over Christmas with a toddler, and the hosts were extremely flexible, supplying all the essential kit, and even allowing us to stay an extra night when a storm blew in. Our daughter still talks about feeding the flocks of garden birds that come into the lovely garden. We'll be back!

Have had two fantastic holidays in the Lake District staying at Kirkfell Cottage. Polly and James are lovely hosts and the cottage itself is perfect with every need catered for in their exquisitely tasteful, designer surroundings. Favourite bits about the cottage - log burners, feeding the birds and watching them from the cottage window and the heated bed blankets absolute luxury after a lovely day out. Lots to do around this part of the lakes, so many places to visit and lots of great walking. Will definitely be back!
