What visitors say

Valerie Hinchliffe

This beautiful 18th century walled garden, just a 5 minute walk from the priory, is not to be missed, especially as it's included in the admission price for the priory and museum. It's easily reached from the car park by crossing the bridge over the dual carriageway and then following a well signposted footpath through woodland to the garden entrance. The ornamental gate was locked when I visited, and I entered through a little cottage a short distance to the right. The walled garden is quite extensive with a cottage garden, arches, pergolas, vegetables and fruit trees. Absolutely loved the tree blossom, the wisteria growing profusely on brick walls, and the herbs used to treat all manner of ailments! There's a delightful summerhouse with sheltered seating and picnic tables, a children's play area, and some interesting artworks. The plants were well labelled, and gardeners were hard at work tending them. The staff were so enthusiastic and friendly, especially the girl at the entrance who recommended going to see the bluebells in the nearby orchard and woods. Altogether, a lovely and peaceful place to absorb the sights and sounds of nature!

A really interesting garden across the carpark from the priory museum, entrance to the garden is included in the museum ticket and it is a really nice area to walk around and explore.
