Wirksworth sits on a hillside in the Derbyshire Dales, a market town with independent shops, cafés and a cinema below, yet The Wee House on the Hill feels removed from the bustle. The 18th-century cottage overlooks rooftops and surrounding countryside from a quiet spot accessed by footpath—no vehicle access, but this keeps it peaceful and set apart.
Inside, an open-plan ground floor combines kitchen and living space around a wood burner; upstairs is a king bedroom and bathroom with shower. Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered, and the wood burner comes with initial logs. An enclosed lawned courtyard with garden furniture opens from the cottage. The setting suits a relaxing break or a base for walking and cycling into the peaks—you can step out the door onto routes through the surrounding hills.
The town below has weekly and monthly farmers' markets, a heritage centre, and the Puzzle Gardens with their network of historic jitties and courtyards to explore. On-road parking is available. Smoking is not permitted.

Old miners cottage on Greenhill in a Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Well finished and very comfortable.

Amazing cottage for two. The steep walk to get here is well worth it. The views are fantastic. The cottage is cosy and the owners have thought of everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. There are plenty of country walks from the door, and the town has plenty of places to eat, or shops to buy provisions. We only used our car on a couple of days during our week here. Would definitely recommend
