About High Tor Hotel
High Tor Hotel occupies a Grade II listed building in Matlock Bath, restored to reflect its nineteenth-century origins while updating the bedrooms to a contemporary boutique standard. The hotel takes its name from the limestone crag that rises directly above the village, within easy walking distance of the front door.
Fourteen bedrooms cover a range of styles, from small doubles to a honeymoon suite, each individually designed with features such as monsoon showers or freestanding pool baths in the higher categories. The hotel's Artist's Corner restaurant serves dinner nightly to residents and non-residents alike, alongside a separate breakfast room each morning.
Its village-centre position puts the Parade, railway station and Heights of Abraham cable car within a short walk, while High Tor itself and the surrounding Lovers Walks offer some of the best short walks directly from the hotel, making it a well-placed choice for a stay built around exploring Matlock Bath on foot.

What guests say
I have stayed 3 different locations in Matlock Bath this year but this hotel wins hands down. Staff are friendly and if they can help with anything it’s no problem. Breakfast was great choice of hot food or cold. The location is ideal, anywhere you need to go it’s easy to get to as there is a bus stop close by. Even though it’s situated on the main road you don’t hear the traffic as it’s up and back (double glazing helps). Comfy beds, Clean sheets. Bathroom small but again clean. Outdoor seating area.

My husband and i stayed in room 3 for 2 nights. The positives: Location - equidistant between Matlock and Maylock Bath; Scenery - very pretty; Very pleasant staff; Bathroom - the shower is very modern and powerful; Quiet at night; Modern and attractive foyer. The downsides - On arrival the bathroom had no toilet paper; The room exhibited poor cleanliness including shower tray, skirting boards, kettle (yuck), window; The room was not cleaned/tidied daily; The tea bags, milk etc were not replenished daily. Poor attention to basics which is a shame as they are easy fixes and unfortunately appear in many reviews.

We were given the wrong room. Advertised as Superior King, but we were given a different, smaller room. The bed was not a King, but two singles shoved together (see pic). There was also an awful pump noise throughout the day and night which kept us awake. The staff were friendly, but hard to get hold of. Tried phoning on the day, but got no reply, and even when we turned up and walked in, it was a while before anyone came to us. Would not recommend

Really nice hotel, indian restaurant on a night with very nice food and a bar. Very quiet but loads of shops, hiking trails, and wildlife. Some very good smaller attractions like the heights of abraham. Would recomend.

Guests consistently praise this hotel for its comfortable rooms featuring modern showers and super king-size beds, complemented by a great full English breakfast. The friendly and helpful staff, good value, and convenient location for exploring both Matlock and Matlock Bath are also frequently highlighted.
Some reviews mention that service can be hard to find.
