Golden Sands Holiday Park

Recently stayed for a weekend. 2 adults 3 kids and a dog. So good points were staff were friendly, caravan was clean, although considering we stayed in a "gold" caravan I was abit disappointed as it looked very much like your basic caravan to me. There was a few repairs that needed doing, and during our stay whilst my child was sat in a chair we noticed it was completely broken, thankfully nothing happened and we informed staff and they promptly replaced it. The pool is nice not particularly big so I can understand the 1 hour time slots. Ok so now for the bad we only ate 1 night there and we found it very expensive for mediocre food. The kids meals were ok but after 30 mins of finishing their meals we were sat waiting for their dessert, so had to go ask, they brought 1 out of 3 we waited about 15 mins, and when we went to check for the others we were told that the kitchen was closed at this point. We reminded them that we had ordered these with our mains, we were told to wait as the manager would need to sort this, 20 mins later and 2 bowls of stale, hard doughnuts arrived that were inedible. At this point we are tired, the kids are tired so we just left. We raised the issue with staff the next day and was offered a refund for the desserts but I feel that the food/service was just lacking. We ate elsewhere for the rest of our stay. So because of this we only say the entertainment for 1 night and I thought it was very dated, no new songs that kids would know all very 80's up to the early 2000's. And it just felt abit lackluster. Finally as we had brought our dog with us we thought it was nice that they had dog mess bins stationed near by, but during our entire stay it was not once emptied, creating overflowing dog mess bins, and leaving dog owners no option but to hang poo bags onto the bin like some game of poo Jenga.

Lovely clean park, modern clean caravans. Food and entertainment in the pub wasn't brilliant when we were there week before May day bank holiday, but staff were lovely and friendly. Shop is small and not brilliantly stocked, they had no butter or margarine spread and only small bottles of pop, and expensive. For what we paid Mon - Fri we were happy. We took our small dogs too in a dog friendly caravan, no smell, you wouldn't have known it was a dog friendly caravan. We will be happy to go again.

Positives: Great location and amazing views. Caravan was clean. The staff are friendly and the entertainment was really good, nice big club house with lots of seating. The pool looked really good and was busy every day we were here. Was aware of the booking system and we didn’t try to use this. There is a little shop, but doesn’t really sell much food. More toys and snacks. There’s a big Sainsbury’s a few mins away. Free WiFi in the clubhouse. Negatives. Our caravan was heaving with ants, they gave us a leaflet about this but they were everywhere, including the fridge and freezer. We brought stuff to sort this ourselves as it was unacceptable and even after going to reception, nothing was done!! Drinks are expensive and we are sure the vodka was watered down. The double vodka was definitely not a double even though we had seen it poured. Bins are overflowing and the seagulls get into it and pull it everywhere, which is a shame as it’s such a lovely site. Bedrooms in the 3 beds are tiny, there is no room to move about in the double and the mattress are too big for the bed and overhang. I’d be interested to see a silver as whilst the gold is ok, it’s not all that. We wouldn’t return, it’s a good location to see the local area which is what we had booked it for.

We were disappointed with this park. The arcade in the clubhouse is now cashless, so the children couldn't use their saved up 2ps or pocket money in the machines. You need to load a card and they tap it to play - really takes the fun out of the machines and in our opinion - is ruining the British holiday. Food was expensive for what it was, children's meals are really small, which meant ours were hungry afterwards and if we have bought them an adult meal each, it would have cost us a fortune. Husband had a ploughman's- baguette wasnt even cut or any butter offered, huge block of cheese with no knife to actually cut it with, sausage rolls smealt like it had been wrapped in plastic for weeks and wasn't enjoyable. I had a chicken wrap which was ok, but wouldn't choose again. Pool is small and not really enjoyable for older children, as no activites or anything to play with. The booking system is also shocking, you have to queue up on the day at 9am, however, people already start queueing early, so you need to get there before 8:45 if you want a slot. In our opinion (and it works for other sites) it would be better to give 2/3 slots to each family per week and select times at check in. There are limited changing facilities by the pool so best to go down with swimwear on if you can. Caravan was ok, doors were all broken and wouldn't close properly - we did let reception know so they were aware it wasn't us. We have been before but 8 years ago and although modernised, definitely feels more run down. Entertainment was ok, although, kids (8 years old) said it was babyish and were bored very quickly. They only stayed and joined in the last night as it was the only night that had more dances and games. We unfortunately won't choose go back as just wasn't for us.
