About North Thorne Cottages and Glamping
Tucked into 18 acres of peaceful pasture next to Wistlandpound Reservoir, North Thorne Glamping offers a boho escape on the edge of Exmoor National Park. The south-facing site boasts spectacular views stretching from Exmoor to Dartmoor, with a natural pond where ducks and geese potter about and exceptional star-filled skies once darkness falls. Bell tents, gypsy wagons and a converted horsebox come decked out in shabby-chic style, sleeping families comfortably, and each has its own outdoor dining setup with vintage crockery, gas cooker and barbecue for al fresco suppers.
Private shower rooms await in the facilities barn, where there's also a communal kitchen, while a second barn houses table tennis and super-size games for rainy days. The tennis court adds another option for active families. Most mornings bring an unexpected soundtrack: jungle chatter from Exmoor Zoo a few fields away, as monkeys and gibbons deliver your wake-up call.

What visitors say
A very special find - we’ve stayed twice in the last 12 months in the Tractor Barn. North Thorne has that very rare blend of fab accommodation, a special (and very beautiful) location with lots to do just out the door and amazing hosts. Andrew and Sarah are very welcoming, kind and have lots of excellent suggestions for places to eat and things to do. We’d really recommend a stay here, it’s a very special place.

What a wonderful place. We stayed here twice this year; once in the Tractor Barn and once on the glamping site. Both times we enjoyed fabulous hospitality with great local knowledge and recommendations. The location of North Thorne is so incredibly peaceful. In the summer, we sat out for hours enjoying the swallows' aeronautical displays overhead. The walking around here is superb. Nearby Wistpoundland Reservoir is great for bird spotting. We will be rebooking for next year with a group of friends. Great safe space for families with children.

We had the privilege to stay in The Tractor Barn at North Thorne Farm in May 2024 and what a wonderful time we all had. I had stayed at the farm many times as a child, so I already knew how great the location was as a base for exploring the area, it is so close to many fantastic attractions and stunning local beaches. However, we were blown away with what the new owners, Sarah and Andrew, had done with the place. Both the cottages and the glamping facilities were second to none and we had the most relaxing and rejuvenating stay. From the cream tea on arrival to the happy and helpful faces that welcomed us on the farm we were made to feel so welcome and part of the family. The Tractor Barn itself was beautifully equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing stay and the beds were sooo comfy. Modern fixtures and fittings, but with so much character. The only problem was, working out when we can stay again. North Thorne is a magical place and all who visit will definitely be back.

We just came back from North Thorne Glamping, marking our 4th stay in this gem of a glamping site. You would wonder why we keep going back to this place and the answer is simple: it has everything our family needs and loves. The safari tents are of great quality with such comfy beds that we all had really good and rejuvenating sleep, then waking up to oxygen filled fresh air and the sounds of animals from the nearby Exmoor Zoo. We had separate fridges and beautiful bathrooms that were fitted to a high standard. Our kids absolutely loved the play barn, feeding the goats and watching the chickens were their favourite daily activities. They actually missed these animals a lot when we came back home. On a lazy day if we didn't want to travel too far we enjoyed a lovely walk around the reservoir just next to the site. Sarah and Andrew were amazing hosts, very helpful, warm and welcoming while professional. The cake in the fridge on arrival adds a nice touch too - a lovely little treat for kids and adults alike when we are out and about. All in all, if you go to North Devon this site surely can't be missed. For us, even after the 4th time we are happy go there again. Let's be honest, it will be hard to find a place that beats North Thorne!
