There's nothing quite like a spectacular sunrise, and from this tiny hilltop site on the Haldon Hills, the dawn views across to the Exe Estuary are genuinely worth setting an alarm for. Eco-conscious owners Kate and Simon have transformed their three-acre meadow into a wildlife haven, planting thousands of trees, restoring hedgerows and wildflower meadows while hosting just a handful of glampers at a time in spacious wooden roundhouses – think yurt meets cabin, with a retractable canvas 'top hat' for sleeping under the stars.
It's properly off-grid: cooking and hot water come via campfire, composting loos and bucket showers replace conventional facilities, so this won't suit everyone. But if you're after a genuinely sustainable outdoor escape, the peaceful woodland-backed setting, abundant birdlife and simple comforts (double bed, sofa beds, all linen provided) strike a lovely balance. Cyclists arriving under their own pedal power earn extra kudos – and a free box of eggs from the site's hens.

I stayed in the yurt for 4 nights and had the most magical stay. I watched the sunrise every morning while boiling my kettle for a long hot shower. Simon and Kate were so welcoming, with lots of knowledge of the area. I will defiantly be going again.

We stayed for 4 nights in the Hornbeam Hut and it was really a wonderful glamping experience! Besides the cosy hut located in a beautiful spot with stunning view the host was really going the extra mile to make us feel welcome and comfortable - 100% recommendation, hope to come back soon!
