About George III Hotel
The Mawddach estuary spreads out below Penmaenpool, with Gwynedd's mountains rising behind, and it's on this stretch of water that the George III Hotel makes its home. The setting is one of quiet countryside and tidal views, with Dolgellau close enough for exploring while the hotel itself sits right among the walking and cycling routes that thread through the valley.
There are 11 rooms, each en-suite, with family rooms available and free WiFi throughout. Many look out over the garden or the mountains beyond, and the property runs a 24-hour reception alongside meeting rooms for those combining business with the scenery. Dogs are welcome, and free on-site parking makes arriving straightforward.
The restaurant and bar are the heart of the place, serving breakfast and meals that regularly draw praise for the Sunday roasts and vegetarian choices, with staff noted for being attentive and friendly. There's a garden and outdoor seating for taking in the estuary views, and fishing, watersports, and further pubs and restaurants are all within reach nearby. It's a straightforward base for anyone wanting the water and hills on the doorstep rather than a town centre.

A must-go-to place! Such friendly and very efficient bar/restaurant staff and service - THANK you. And what a big menu choice - from bar-type food to big a-la-carte menu for a proper lunch/dinner - all freshly prepared. Our dog loved being there too. And what a fabulous location with great views and on the well-marked footpath network along the estuary.

Lovely place for a quiet drink in the estuary. Worthwhile popping in for a drink before the long walk/cycle to Barmouth. Great selection of well known and local drinks available. Brilliant views from every angle.

We went late on a Sunday, which I suspect was a mistake, as it felt like it was the end of a long and busy day for the staff. Roasts were average, potatoes that had been cooked and kept warm for hours, OK veg and decent meat to be fair. Service was also a bit chaotic. Three tables that came in after us all got their food before we did even though we'd ordered before them. Shame as it's a fantastic location.
