Absolutely found a gem of a campsite great for doing the Mawddach Trail by bike. £30 a night and a pound for a three minute shower not bad. Definitely will be back again.

🏕️ A proper end-of-day stop after a long stretch on the Trans-Euro Trail. Tucked into 40 acres of broadleaf woodland in the foothills of Cader Idris, streamside pitches, mountain views in every direction - exactly what you need when the bike is off and the legs are done. 💷 Around £9 for a solo motorcycle and tent - fair for what you get and the location. 🚿 Facilities are solid - toilets, showers, fire pit BBQ with outdoor seating. Bring pound coins for the showers as they're pay-only. 🎨 The owners bought this place in 2010 and built it from scratch into what it is today - 64 acres of campsite, fishing lakes and woodland. Ask them about their story - they've earned the telling of it. 🕐 Open 1 March to 31 October. About 15 minutes on foot downhill to Dolgellau - budget 20 minutes back up. 📍 Nestled in Snowdonia National Park off Cader Road, Dolgellau. One of those sites that feels genuinely earned rather than just booked.

*Caravan storage site* Lovely owner and nice fishing pond for a day rate at a 5 min walk from site. We found The motorhome and tent camping area (at the start of the site) felt pretty much isolated on the site and felt like a little bit of a bolt on to the regular weekend caravans that are stored on site. A Short walk down the hill for the chemical waste, (only use in daylight as it's pitch black) and a few mins further walk around to the seasonal caravans you can find the new toilet and shower block, bring your pound coins for hot water. There is also a block next to this for cleaning pots, hot water on meter, but it's too far to carry all your pots from where we were. It feels like it's for the 5 permanant caravans pitched there. The site would really benefit from a water supply and grey waste to each pitch to help with the isolation from amenities. But I don't think we would pay more than £30 a night with that included, currently it isn't. The site is pitch black at night so I'd recommend torches. Some cheap solar lights around the site would be a brilliant addition. As would the old mill if that could be available to wash pots? And a light on that building. All in all, we loved our stay here and would be tempted to return, but mainly for the fiahing. At £30 per night it was in the high end of comparable sites, but sadly didn't quite offer as much.

The campsite is very tranquil and we enjoyed using it as a base to explore the local area. However, a 3 minute shower costs £1, which I feel is expensive and not enough time. On other sites during this holiday, I have paid 20p for a 4 minute shower and 50p for a 5 minute shower. In addition, the coin machines to pay for the showers are located outside of the shower cubicles so I had to get out of the shower to put another coin in and continue. I feel this creates a privacy issue. I also felt that the facilities, while very new, weren't cleaned regularly and they had an unpleasant smell. We tried to wash up, but the facilities did not have any hot water and there was a coin machine to pay for the hot water, but the coin slot was taped over. So I'm not sure if the facilities were supposed to be in use although they were open. In summary, a nice location, but the facilities were unsatisfactory.
