About Lower Wraxall Farmhouse

It may have few big towns and no cities or motorways at all, but Dorset definitely doesn't have a dearth of dazzling scenery. Fan of hidden hamlets and rolling farmland? Then you may find it particularly pretty at Lower Wraxall Farmhouse, a tiny site 20 minutes' drive north of Dorchester.

Things have moved since the days when Thomas Hardy described Gabriel Oak's basic shepherd's hut in 'Far from the Madding Crowd'; guests looking for a bit of pampering should find the accommodation's kitchen, log-burning stove, running water and wifi welcome. One thing hasn't changed, though – these huts are still cosy hideaways, small enough to be snug but big enough to contain almost everything you could need. The hut sits in a secluded private garden bordered by a stream, almost always abuzz with wildlife you can admire from your porch or while wallowing in the rather fab outdoor bath.

Owner Judy is happy to welcome you to the farmhouse across the road for breakfast (additional cost, advance booking), including homemade marmalade and locally sourced ingredients. There's a pub and village shop in Cattistock, slightly more than a mile away, with supermarkets in Dorchester.
