Little Thatch

Photo: Kim Morrison

Lyme Regis, Bridport and the Jurassic Coast's fossil cliffs are all within reach from Little Thatch, a detached thatched cottage in the village of Netherbury. The location works well for exploring Dorset's heritage sites—Forde Abbey and Gardens, Montacute House, and Furleigh Estate Vineyard are nearby—or simply walking into countryside. A pub and restaurant sit a mile and a half away, and the beach is six miles north.

The property has one double bedroom and a shower room on the ground floor, with a living and dining room, kitchen, and separate dining space also downstairs. Cooking is straightforward with an electric cooker and microwave; a washer-dryer handles laundry. Bed linen, towels and electricity are included. The large lawned garden opens onto a patio with furniture, and there is parking for two cars on site.

One dog can stay free. The cottage does not suit children under 12, except babies in arms. Note that the stairs are open, steep and narrow.

My parents booked a stay, but when my father locked himself out they did not help at all. He had to pay 154 pound for a locksmith, and they did not help whatsoever. Disgusting way to treat two people in there mid 70s. Why was there not a spare key provided?

Beautiful location, gorgeous cottage.Unfortunately we visited this cottage in minus 1 degrees .On arrival we looked forward to getting inside this picture perfect cottage. It was freezing inside,we had to try and locate the electricity board to switch on the boiler,it took the full weekend for the cottage to hit 13 degrees at which point we had decided to get home .We contacted the manager to let them know who told us there was a small dab heater in the upstairs cupboard. All it would have taken to avoid this would be to have switched on the heating before our arrival. We are hardy country lovers and used to weather conditions, but we're honestly disappointed in the service and attitude of the owner of this property. Yes we know it is a three hundred year old thatch cottage and we're all in for experience.Disappointed in customer service.Top tip-Only book mid summer to get the best out of this property.🙄😞
