Smiths Farm Cottages - The Stables

Photo: Carol Channon

This conversion of a 19th-century stable block sits within Smiths Farm, a working property that has stood for around two centuries. The building retains the character of its origins while offering the comfort needed for a week away. Three bedrooms—one double with its own bathroom, two singles, and a separate shower room—are spread across two floors, with the ground floor given over to the living areas and kitchen. One well-behaved dog can stay at no extra cost, and there's an enclosed garden where they can move about freely.

The kitchen has what you need to cook proper meals: electric cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine. Downstairs, a living room with Freeview and a DAB radio serves as the social hub. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are all included. There's parking for two cars on site and an electric charging point if you need it. The garden is large and lawned, with seating and a barbecue for outdoor entertaining.

Charmouth is under two miles away—close enough for an easy trip to the beach, shops, pubs and restaurants there. The Tunnel Tree Tops adventure park is another nearby draw. The location sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the Jurassic Coast accessible for walks and fossil hunting. The owners live on the farm and are on hand to help when needed.

Lovely views over the valley, peaceful location. Wine and cookies from the host is a nice touch. The driveway down to the property is sketchy and wouldn't be suitable for low-clearance vehicles. Excellent value though, even if it's a little dated inside.

We stayed in the Barn for a week and enjoyed the warm and comfy accommodation. Perfect location for exploring the Jurassic coast and ideally situated from the M5! Lovely hosts, helpful but not intrusive and an all round good stay! Thank for shovelling the snow!

We spent a perfect week in the lovely Barn which was well equipped, very comfortable and in an ideal location. The amazing view exceeded our expectations and was a delight to return to after visiting nearby places such as Charmouth and Lyme Regis. The two en suites and separate shower room were ideal and the welcome pack was a lovely touch from the perfect hosts. The Barn is also dog friendly with an enclosed garden. We hope to return

A great house with all essentials provided. Was particularly impressed with a travel cot already set-up with mattress and also toddler bedding, ready for use when we got there. All the rooms are a great size and with very comfy bedding and blankets. A lovely living room and kitchen and we were left a welcome basket- such a thoughtful gesture. I really rate this place. Also, on-site parking with lots of room! Location is fab, too, being 5 mins from Lyme Regis. Excellent stay!!!
