Lapwing Lodge is a single-storey property on the Arbigland Estate, arranged entirely at ground level around an open-plan living space. You walk into a unified room divided into living, dining and kitchen areas, with a woodburner providing warmth and focus. Two bedrooms adjoin this main space—one with a super king bed, the other with two single beds—alongside a bathroom with bath and shower. The kitchen has an electric hob, oven, dishwasher and washing machine, so you can cook and manage laundry without fuss. Parking for two cars sits on site, and one well-behaved pet is welcome.

The estate sits in open countryside near the Solway coast, where fields surrounding the lodge attract lapwings—the birds the property is named after. From here you can walk to quiet beaches for coastal exploring or simply to watch light shift across the estuary. Dumfries is the nearest town, a short drive away. The essentials are covered: electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are all included. No smoking inside. The lodge suits couples, small families or friends seeking a low-key base with direct access to both countryside and coast.

Been coming to the lodges since 2018. What was once a chance discovery online has now become my safe place. I only live a county away but knowing I'm able to come here once (hopefully) every year is comforting. I really do feel safe here, and happy. In the lodges you'll find everything you need, you just need to bring food and your clothes. Towels, hairdryer, coat hangers, cutlery, dishes etc is all provided. I don't use the dishwasher, I personally prefer to hand wash my dishes as they're guaranteed to be properly cleaned. However the dishwasher is easy to use if needed. It's a very very quiet area. Perfect for all ages but especially for those who are needing a break from a stressful, busy or loud daily life. The beach is lovely but the tide is quick and strong so be aware. There's loads to do around the area and plenty of walks too. Even for the less abled, there's something for everyone. I have multiple sclerosis and I struggle with pain in my legs, we managed some lovely walks on the flat. As long as I'm able to, I will always come back to this place. It really is a hidden treasure.

The owners of The Lodges are very nice and helpful people , what let the holiday down was the cleanliness of the place , they have a contract cleaning company who were absolutely hopeless , the duvet was badly stained and old which the owners changed for us the grill pan was still dirty with fat in it , the dishwasher is very dirty around all the sides also the drawer of the washer had not seen a clean for a VERY LONG TIME , IT WAS DISGUSTING, the bathroom floor was very sticky , I tore one of my tshirts up and washed it myself , I told Jamie the owner that the cleaners are really letting them down badly, lampshade in bedroom full of dust and the tools they are using for cleaning were a disgrace , I also think the cushions on the sofa need to be changed as the inners are old and lumpy and grey , we feel as we had paid all that money we were let down, the owners need to take a good look when they are cleaned

Lapwing lodge is a fantastic little stay. Well kept by a nice owner. Reccomend booking directly. The place is quiet but close enough to the town. Homely and relaxing with farm land and wildlife visible from the main living area and the deck. Will visit again.
