Powillimount Beach is a short walk away, making this part of Dumfries and Galloway ideal if you want coastal access without the crowds of a seaside town. Beachcombers Cottage sits on a working farm, with countryside around it and the shore within easy reach for beachcombing or a change of scenery.

The cottage has six bedrooms across two floors and sleeps 12, with five bathrooms to match. Downstairs there are two separate living spaces, each with a woodburner and television, plus two kitchens—one equipped with electric hob and oven, the other with the essentials for preparing food. Bedrooms range from a super kingsize to twins, and three have their own en-suite bathrooms. One of the ground-floor bedrooms has a four-poster double with an ensuite shower; upstairs, bedrooms vary between doubles, twins and another super kingsize. A family bathroom serves the remaining rooms.

Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. The cottage comes with travel cots, highchairs, stairgates and fireguards if you're travelling with younger children. One dog is welcome. Parking is available for up to four cars on site, and there's an enclosed garden with furniture and a barbecue. The property is non-smoking.

BEACHCOMBERS COTTAGE (2 COTTAGES LINKED) The 10 of us (3 extended families) had a fantastic long weekend. The cottage(s) were great for spreading out and everyone/couple had their own space. The extra large dining table was perfect and accommodated us comfortably for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Favourite event was dinner with everyone! We were so lucky with the weather as the rain held off and the sun was out most of the weekend. There was a beautiful crow fledgling in the gravel garden which we gave a wide berth to. Happily its parents were nearby. A farmer was spraying manure in the fields directly behind the cottage, so that was a bit of a turnoff, but I suppose that can't be helped considering where we were and we could escape the smell by walking 5 mins down the road to the amazing, vast beach. We attempted to walk out at 7:30/8pm to the Steamboat Inn via the shore but alas we did bite off more than we could chew and ended up abandoning the hike 2 hours into the expedition and had to cut our losses via a shortcut through the estate as unfortunately it was starting to get dusky and we were exhausted. The cottages would definately benefit from some much needed TLC. Some areas are worn, dowdy, cobwebbed and had water damaged wallpaper. Most of the beds were rather tired and worn, however, the bed clothes were lovely and fresh and the rooms were cosy. BINS The bins outside Arthur's cottage were mostly filled with the wrong waste/recycling sadly i.e. (loads of glass bottles in grey bin and black plastic filled waste bags in the recycling bins.) We did our best and took a lot of our recycling home, rather than adding to it. Having said all that, we would recommend the extended cottage for a large family gathering.

We went for Christmas week. The views were stunning and the beach and caves being nearby was wonderful. We had both properties. One side has obviously been modernised and is pleasant. The other cottage is a bit sad. Needs updating. The kitchen is fabulous on this side but the dishwasher top tray was dangerous with jagged metal where the ends had come off. The wood burning stove was very smoky due to there being little to no draw. So it was quite cold in there with a small radiator to heat the space. The heating comes on twice a day but in Winter maybe advisable more often. Bins hadn't been emptied when we arrived so had to take our rubbish bags home with us. The owner and son came to help when the oven didn't work. Only a few niggles which are easily rectified. We loved staying here and would hope to return again.

We're in the front apartment, downstairs, which has a bedroom (double bed), a bathroom accessible from the bedroom with a shower, and a living room with a kitchenette. It's clean, the Wi-Fi works well and reliably (except in the bedroom), the refrigerator is older and doesn't cool very well anymore. There's no washing machine available in this part of the building.
