Drumlanrig Mains Cottage is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom property sleeping six on the grounds of a 17th-century estate near Thornhill. The ground floor holds a living room with woodburner and smart TV, plus a kitchen/dining room equipped for full self-catering with oven, hob, dishwasher and washing machine. One bedroom with a double bed and ensuite shower is also on this level. Upstairs, a kingsize bedroom and a twin bedroom complete the layout. The essentials—heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi—are included, along with a welcome pack on arrival.

Outside, the cottage has a garden with sitting-out area and furniture, bike storage, and private parking for four cars. One dog stays free. The 90,000-acre estate offers miles of walking, mountain biking trails, fishing on the river, and activities for children including an adventure playground and ranger-led wildlife walks. The Solway Coast lies within reach, with sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs nearby; Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a 1,400-acre nature reserve, is also accessible. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Visited in mid March for a relaxing get away and loved every minute of it! The fire was the highlight, our dog also loved lying in front of it. Great size cottage with beautiful decor and a perfect enclosed garden for our dog to go out. There were lots of walks around the castle grounds and sheep walking around freely - very cute! It was the perfect country escape and we can’t wait to go back again one day.
