You arrive at The Bullpen to find a single ground-floor space that opens immediately into a working layout. The open-plan living room has a vaulted ceiling and patio doors leading to an enclosed courtyard, where a private four-person hot tub sits among garden furniture. The kitchen is equipped for cooking—electric oven and hob, dishwasher, and everything needed to prepare meals. One bedroom holds zip-and-link beds that can be arranged as a double or singles, and there is a bathroom with both bath and separate cubicle shower.
This is a converted barn on a small working farm just outside Stranraer, in Dumfries and Galloway. The property is yours alone, with private parking for two cars and a bike store. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. The courtyard is enclosed, and smoking is not permitted inside.
Stranraer itself is a mile away, but the real draw is what lies beyond: the Mull of Galloway nature reserve where seabirds nest on cliff faces, the clifftop and beach walks along the coast, and the cycling routes of 7stanes. Golf courses and shooting facilities are nearby. The area's gardens include Logan Botanical Gardens, and the Southern Upland Way passes close by.

We stayed in The Byre, one of 4 self catering cottages at Spoutwells farm. Anne and Peter are wonderful hosts and the cottage is well equipped, comfortable and warm. There's an outdoor area with hot tub, included in the rental. Highly recommended.

We recently stayed for a long weekend and the cottage (the Byre) was absolutely fantastic. Great location. The cottage was spotless, spacious and it had everything you could need. The hot tub was an added bonus. Peter and Ann were great hosts and thank you both for the toy tractors for the kids - they hand the best time! Hope to visit again in future.

Just outside Stranraer, less than a mile walk to nearest supermarket. Cottage we had was clean and well equipped with very comfortable beds. Anne and Peter are lovely hosts and even had a welcome basket of food in the cottage for us. A great location to explore Galloway

Fantastic accommodation. Spotless. Everything you need supplied. Hosts were fabulous so kind to our grandchildren. Peter brought delicious strawberries for us. The welcome basket was the best we have ever received. Lots of things to do and see with children. A great place for a family holiday . We hope to be back .
