Families and groups looking for a whole property to themselves will find The Byre works well for six people. Three bedrooms—one with a double bed, two with zip-and-link singles—sit across ground and first floors, served by two bathrooms. The ground floor opens into a living space with kitchen and dining area, patio doors to an enclosed courtyard, and a television. Essentials like heating, electricity, linen and towels are covered, plus Wi-Fi throughout.
What sets this converted barn apart is the private hot tub in the courtyard, available until 10pm. There's parking for three cars and a bike store. The property sits within a mile of Stranraer town centre yet on working farmland, giving it a rural feel without isolation. Smoking is not permitted inside.
Stranraer lies on the Dumfries and Galloway coast, near rugged shorelines and beaches warmed by the Gulf Stream. The Southern Upland Way passes close by for walkers; the 7stanes mountain-biking trails are within reach. Nearby ports include Portpatrick and Sandhead. Logan Botanical Gardens and the RSPB Scotland Mull of Galloway nature reserve, where seabirds nest on cliff faces in spring and summer, are among local attractions. Golf and shooting facilities exist in the area.

We stayed in The Byre, one of 4 self catering cottages at Spoutwells farm. Anne and Peter are wonderful hosts and the cottage is well equipped, comfortable and warm. There's an outdoor area with hot tub, included in the rental. Highly recommended.

We recently stayed for a long weekend and the cottage (the Byre) was absolutely fantastic. Great location. The cottage was spotless, spacious and it had everything you could need. The hot tub was an added bonus. Peter and Ann were great hosts and thank you both for the toy tractors for the kids - they hand the best time! Hope to visit again in future.

Just outside Stranraer, less than a mile walk to nearest supermarket. Cottage we had was clean and well equipped with very comfortable beds. Anne and Peter are lovely hosts and even had a welcome basket of food in the cottage for us. A great location to explore Galloway

Fantastic accommodation. Spotless. Everything you need supplied. Hosts were fabulous so kind to our grandchildren. Peter brought delicious strawberries for us. The welcome basket was the best we have ever received. Lots of things to do and see with children. A great place for a family holiday . We hope to be back .
