Dumfries and Galloway

Newton Stewart sits at the edge of Galloway's countryside, where the River Cree runs through valleys backed by forest and moorland. The Hen Hoose is a compact cottage on the village outskirts, surrounded by 12 acres of natural grounds shared with other properties on the smallholding. A river runs through the land, about 300 yards from the house; riverside paths begin at the gate. Galloway Forest Park lies within easy reach, offering walking trails, cycling routes and access to coastal coves and beaches across the wider region.
The cottage has two bedrooms—one with a king-size bed, one with two singles—and one bathroom with a bath and shower. Downstairs, an open-plan living space combines the kitchen, dining and sitting areas, with a TV and DVD player. The kitchen is equipped for cooking and includes a washer-dryer. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and electricity are all included. There is private parking for two cars and a bike store on site. A courtyard with seating overlooks the shared gardens. One dog is welcome here at no extra cost, though they must be kept on a lead—the area is sheep country. Smoking is not permitted.
A pub sits about a mile away, with Newton Stewart itself offering shops, restaurants, a swimming pool, golf course and tennis courts. The setting suits anyone wanting to base themselves for walking and outdoor pursuits without being in a built-up area.

Perfect location for touring the South of Scotland. Cottage is all you need . For the price it's well worth the 5 stars . Plenty of space and great for dogs. Our granddaughter loved the week here.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hen hoose it was lovely and clean, very central for what we wanted and only minutes from Newton Stewart there are plenty of places to walk the dog. The cottage was immaculate, well equipped, and very clean, the owners were extremely welcoming. Will definitely revisit.
