New fully serviced touring pitches at Benmore, minutes from Dunoon
About The Secret Glen
The Secret Glen is a purpose-built touring site at Benmore, a few miles north of Dunoon on the road towards Loch Eck and the Argyll Forest Park. Every pitch is fully serviced hardstanding with individual electric hookup—a deliberate step up from the mixed grass-and-gravel layouts common at older Argyll sites—and modern shower blocks, outdoor washing-up area and dedicated barbecue space keep things comfortable and low-fuss.
The location puts you within easy reach of Puck's Glen and Benmore Botanic Garden, both a short drive or cycle away, as well as longer routes into the forest around Loch Eck. Dogs are welcome throughout, reflecting the site's appeal to walkers, and wifi is available for those who need to stay connected. There's no shop or playground on site, so most guests stock up in Dunoon—only ten minutes by car—before settling in. It's one of the more polished, genuinely rural bases for exploring the Cowal Peninsula.

What visitors say
We received clear instructions by text before arriving, including exactly where our pitch was. The couple who run the campsite were friendly, easy to reach, and always helpful. The location is beautiful, with great walks nearby like Puck’s Glen and Benmore. There’s a wee river beside the campsite with a bird feeder where red squirrels and lots of birds come to feed, a lovely spot to sit and watch wildlife. The toilets and showers were very clean throughout our stay. The only small downside is that there’s just one dish‑washing area, so you might need to wait if it gets busy. Overall, I highly recommend Secret Glen Campsite. We’ll definitely be back, as there are still plenty of places nearby we didn’t get time to explore.

We couldn’t recommend this campsite highly enough. Louise was incredibly friendly and kept in touch throughout the booking process, making everything so easy. The tent pitches are in a beautiful spot with stunning forest views, and you’re almost guaranteed to catch a glimpse of the famous red squirrels. The facilities are excellent and kept spotlessly clean. It’s also a fantastic base for exploring the local area, with places like Benmore Botanic Garden just a short drive away. A great little tip from Louise too – if you arrive and realise you’ve forgotten food or don’t fancy cooking, there are local takeaways that deliver straight to the campsite. One thing to be aware of is that the midges can be pretty fierce in this area, especially on still evenings, so it’s worth coming prepared with midge spray and head nets. Thankfully, the campsite provides citronella candles and incense, which made a noticeable difference and helped keep them at bay. Five stars all round. We had a fantastic stay and would absolutely love to come back.

Just back from a lovely 2 night stay here. Booking was easy and all the required info was clearly given so checking in was easy too. The site is peaceful, beautiful, nicely laid out with plenty space between pitches and absolutely immaculate. It is easy access straight from the road but once you're in you're surrounded by trees. The toilets and showers are gorgeously done and sparkling clean. They are located in the reception building at the entrance to the park so if being really close to facilities is important to you book a serviced pitch. You choose any empty pitch on arrival but the serviced are all at the entrance end. The motorhome service point and toilet disposal is located down at the other end and is brilliantly laid out to do everything needed at the same time. Lovely area for tents, a BBQ area and plenty picnic tables and benches dotted around. Watching the resident red squirrels was such a bonus, I love squirrels and they were very active all the time. EHU pitches 6, 7, 8 and 9 are great for watching them! Had a chat with Louise before we left and she was lovely, so friendly. She had just started cleaning the loos but made time for a chat. We will definitely return here and would highly recommend. There's not a single thing I would change if it was mine. Thank you for creating this gem of a place!

What a gem of a site! Excellent location and Louise and her husband are amazing hosts. Lovely spacious pitches and super clean toilet and shower facilities. Other sites could learn a lot from a visit here. The only thing that could be improved in my view is the booking process. The software used is predominantly for hotels and one of the final pages states ‘no dogs in rooms’ - Minor heart palpitations here whilst I double checked the main website, but all was good and the hound was allowed. Thank you for a lovely stay.
