Hazel Cottage works well for couples after a quieter break, families needing space to spread out, or small groups who want their own place. The entire property sits on a single floor—an open-plan living and kitchen area with wooden flooring leads through French doors to a rear patio, where a barbecue and garden furniture are already set up. The two bedrooms offer a double and two singles; the wet room has a shower, with a separate toilet elsewhere in the cottage.

The kitchen is properly equipped for cooking, with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and washing machine. Heating is underfloor electric throughout. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included; a travel cot and highchair are available if needed. You park on-site for two cars and have access to six acres of grounds shared with the other cottages on the property. The cottage is non-smoking.

Location-wise, Durham itself is roughly ten miles away, offering the cathedral, castle and riverside attractions. The setting remains rural enough that you're surrounded by open fields, though major transport connections are only a few miles off. Bike storage is available if you plan to explore the countryside by pedal.

We had an amazing stay at Durham Country Cottages. The bungalow is set in a beautiful, peaceful location surrounded by scenic views, which made it perfect for relaxing and switching off. The underfloor heating was a really nice touch and kept the place warm and cosy throughout our stay. Everything was clean, well maintained, and thoughtfully prepared. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made us feel comfortable straight away. It was also great value for money and felt like a real hidden gem. We had no complaints at all and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway. We would definitely love to return in the future.

We stayed in Bramble cottage for 4 nights. It was a lovely stay and the cottage contained everything you would need. Jean and Amy were excellent hosts and very accommodating. They went out of their way to give us a comfortable stay. A very peaceful setting but not far from local attractions and places to visit.
