Richmond and the surrounding countryside of County Durham draw visitors for the landscape and the market towns themselves. Hillcrest Country Park, where Elder Cottage stands, puts you between Richmond and Barnard Castle with the rolling terrain around them to explore on foot or by car. The cottage is yours entirely—no shared facilities or other guests—and welcomes one dog at no extra cost.
Everything is on the ground floor. The open-plan living space combines a kitchen with electric oven and hob, a dining table and a sitting area facing an electric woodburner and smart television. Two bedrooms—one with a king bed, the other with two single beds—and a shower room with heated towel rail complete the layout. Essentials like electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels are included. Outside, a patio with furniture and garden access look out over the village; you have parking for two cars on site.
The cottage suits families or groups of friends after a self-catering base. No smoking indoors. Check-in is from 15:00 and checkout at 10:00.

Stayed in one of the cottages after a very last minute booking on good Friday after our original booking elsewhere was deemed unsuitable by ourselves. The cottage was lovely and warm and it appears that a lot of the oven ware and utensils had just been renewed. Well equipped in all aspects the beds were especially comfortable. The one negative? The internal doors wouldn't close on the latch. Therefore, when ever the wind got up they banged against the doorframe. The site though busy was still very quiet and tranquil. Well presented and maintained.

Lovely private feeling retreat. Very Nice hosts. A memorable trip for all the right reasons. A lot of effort went into setting this up ,many thanks to Kate and Ed Breakfast on the decking in the sunshine was great, supper on the patio with the gas heater a real treat. You will love it here.

Had a lovely week in the Ivy Cottage. The location is peaceful and quiet, yet it is convenient for the Dales or the North Yorkshire Moors. The beds were comfy and the kitchen was adequately equipped. The only thing that caused concern was a drain in the shower being unable to handle full flow. Otherwise everything was fine and exceeded our expectations.
