About Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa

Ramside Hall sits in extensive parkland on the edge of Durham, built around a country house core with modern bedroom wings added around a private lake and golf courses. It is one of the largest hotels in the area, geared as much towards golf breaks, weddings and spa visits as overnight city stays.

The on-site spa has a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and treatment rooms, and the grounds include two 18-hole championship golf courses. Four bars and restaurants cover everything from casual dining to more formal evening meals.

Durham city centre and the cathedral are a short drive away, making Ramside Hall better suited to visitors with a car who want grounds and leisure facilities alongside their sightseeing rather than a base within walking distance of the peninsula.

Booked through booking.com however Ramside Hall website advertised same photos etc. Room was lovely but definitely not what is shown on photos. I booked a deluxe room expecting a fancy freestanding bath in corner, robes and slippers, garden view..... nope! was given view of carpark. They managed to move us across the hall to a nicer view. Apparantly there's only one deluxe room with freestanding bath in corner which is currently getting refurbished.we stayed on a Saturday so It's Very noisy at night and during the day. Can hear every single person walk and talk past the door. Outside is extremely noisy if events and large groups are visiting. Can hear all the parties from the treehouses and weddings. Not exactly relaxing if you are expecting some peace. Service was great. They changed us rooms upon arrival and staff very friendly. They seem more than happy to help. Breakfast excellent....worth the upgrade. The Pin is fun with bowling and golf etc. Food places and spa also excellent. Shame you only have 1hour access to pool/sauna with hotel stays. Didn't seem long enough.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at Ramside for our wedding anniversary. We stayed in a premium room overlooking the golf course which was beautiful. The room was large and clean, with cleaning staff coming to refresh it daily. We enjoyed the pool/spa area and ate/had drinks at the Charcoa restaurant and the Pin bar which we enjoyed. A particular highlight was our anniversary dinner at the Rib Room which was exceptional! Staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful too. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Durham or the surrounding area.

Avoid this hotel if you’re expecting a true 4-star experience. A family member booked an overnight stay here as a relaxing treat for me and my two-month-old son to celebrate his birth. Unfortunately, it turned into a very upsetting experience from start to finish. The room was not of the standard I would expect from a 4-star hotel or for the price paid. The bathroom was dated and in poor condition, with heavy staining, mould around the bath and a broken shower head. The ironing board was stained, there was no fridge (which made travelling with a young baby more difficult), and the kettle was covered in limescale. A formal complaint was made by both myself and my family member because of the personal impact the stay had on me and my baby. As I was not the booking holder, I submitted my own complaint directly to Ramside Hall so that my experience as a guest and as a first-time mother could be considered separately. Whilst the hotel apologised for my experience, my complaint was ultimately treated as feedback rather than being dealt with as a formal complaint, which I found extremely disappointing given the seriousness of the concerns I raised. Given that Ramside Hall prides itself on hosting family events such as weddings and special occasions. Based on this experience, that standard was certainly not reflected in the care or service we received. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!

We booked the Dove Treehouse for our wedding venue and the Barn Marquee for our reception and we genuinely couldn't recommend Ramside Hall enough. It was the first, and only, wedding venue we visited and from start to finish everything has been incredible. Robyn was our wedding coordinator and has been absolutely amazing - nothing has been an issue and she has been so professional and has gone above and beyond for us from the very beginning. Our wedding day was perfect and we couldn't fault a thing - so many of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed the venue, the food and their hotel rooms. Every member of staff we have communicated with has been outstanding and we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. Thank you all so much!
