What visitors say
Sandwood Bay is hands down one of the most spectacular beaches in Scotland and a true hidden gem! Massive sweeps of golden sand, backed by dunes and a huge sea stack called Am Buachaille, with wild Atlantic waves rolling in. It's a solid 4-mile walk each way from the Blairmore car park (about 8 miles round trip), mostly over moorland on a clear, easy to follow track. Not too tough if you've got decent boots, but it can get boggy after rain. The reward at the end is pure magicm. A vast, empty beach that feels properly remote and untouched. We had it almost to ourselves on a beautiful day, just seabirds and the sound of the sea. Bring everything with you (no facilities at the beach), and allow plenty of time. It's a proper adventure, not a quick stop. If you're up on the North Coast 500 or near Kinlochbervie, make the effort. Totally worth it. Left me grinning like an idiot the whole way back. One of those places that stays with you...

This is an exceptionally scenic and relatively easy walk, with a flat terrain. The highlight is the breathtaking view of the beach from a distance, as you approach this hidden gem. It is truly an awe-inspiring experience.

Incredible beach, very remote, requires a ~13km walk (round trip) from the car park. The walk itself is very scenic and peaceful. A great place to wild camp too. Lots of sheep around!

A marvellous day out. Stunning scenery, and the prize of the remote beach after a trek across a good, well trodden path. The car park was full when we visited, and rather than park on verges and cause blockages and inconvenience to others, we parked around 1.5 miles away, further back on the approach road. This extended the walk to around 12-13 miles in total. Not a problem for us, but be mindful of parking issues when visiting during busy periods.
