Willow Cottage

East Suffolk

Photo: Willow Cottage Suffolk

Woodbridge sits on the cusp of rural Suffolk, and Willow Cottage sits deeper still—in open countryside that slopes away toward fishing grounds and woodland. The hamlet is quiet enough to feel removed, close enough to the market town that you're never far from supplies or a decent pub. The cottage itself dates to the 1600s, stone and timber with the kind of settled presence that comes from four centuries in one place.

Inside, a king-size bedroom and ensuite with freestanding bath occupy the first floor, along with a double that works for a second couple or children. Downstairs there's a living room where a woodburner takes the chill off autumn and winter evenings, a separate dining room, and a kitchen fitted for proper cooking—electric oven, hob, dishwasher, the full set. Beyond the patio doors, the garden is enclosed and furnished for sitting out, with a barbecue for grilling. The property includes wi-fi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels; there's an external utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. One dog travels free. Smoking is not permitted.

This is the kind of place where you notice the quality of light at different times of day, where walks start from the back door, and where cooking something proper for dinner feels like time well spent rather than a chore. It suits people who want Norfolk-and-Suffolk countryside without the fuss of a holiday park.

My wife Stayed here for a silent retreat. It was a very quiet place to relax outside in the garden by the pond , plenty of walks to do. If you have a car ideal for Saxmundham, Framlingham , and Dunwich , Orford , Snape, and beyond. Excellent host . Would recommend a stay here.

Willow Cottage is perfect, very comfortable and clean and an ideal location for exploring Suffolk. It is private, very quiet and cosy. There are several very good restaurants and pubs nearby: the Prince of India and Watson & Walpole in Framlingham and The Low House in Laxfield to name just three. Our highlights for visits were to Lavenham, Woodbridge, Sutton Hoo and Southwold. You really will love this cottage.
