About Haddon Hall Hotel

Devonshire Place sits within easy reach of Eastbourne's seafront, and Haddon Hall Hotel has been a fixture on this stretch for many years, giving guests a base close to the coast with the countryside of East Sussex spreading out beyond the town. Some rooms look out towards the sea, though the rooms themselves are kept simple rather than plush, with en-suite bathrooms, family rooms available, and drinks and room service on hand for anyone who wants to stay in.

The hotel runs its own restaurant and bar, with a snack bar for lighter options and breakfast served each morning, plus packed lunches for days out. Entertainment is laid on at the property itself, and reception is staffed around the clock. Free WiFi and a lift are among the practical touches, useful for a straightforward stay without extra frills.

Outside the hotel there's plenty to fill the days: walking and cycling routes nearby, golf and fishing within reach, and watersports along the coast. Pubs, bars and restaurants in the surrounding area mean guests aren't limited to the hotel's own kitchen, and Eastbourne's cultural and coastal attractions are close at hand for anyone wanting to explore further.

We had a fantastic two-night half-board stay. The rooms were very comfortable, the food was excellent with generous portions, and the half-price bar from 7:30–10:30 in the ballroom was a great bonus. The staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. The Wednesday night entertainment was outstanding, with a great selection of songs that suited the audience perfectly—lots of people were up dancing and clearly having a wonderful time. Unfortunately, Thursday night didn’t quite live up to that standard. Although Jane was very pleasant, her choice of music—ranging from 80s and 90s hits to The Killers and ballads—didn’t really suit the older audience. As a result, there was noticeably less dancing and overall enjoyment. The contrast with Wednesday night made this more apparent. We ended up leaving early and heading to the Burlington Hotel, where we saw an act called Melodie. They were fantastic—their song choices were spot-on for the crowd, the dance floor was full, and it made for a brilliant end to the evening. This is the only reason I couldn’t give a full 5-star rating. On a positive note, Melodie do perform at this hotel on Sundays and Wednesdays, which is definitely something to look forward to. The only constructive criticism would be that adding background music in the reception area would really enhance the atmosphere.

Room clean but smells bad. Room is so small that only a walk space left after bed and furniture. Shower is so small that we keep hitting our elbows while taking shower. The lift is old fashioned with only 3 people allowed at a time and long queues for the lift. When used stairs, we couldn’t breathe because of the odour, and only one file of traffic flows while others wait. That narrow the stairs. It is hot summer and no fan was provided. When asked for a fan, the staff said they don’t have any spare ones, and if it is not in the room, someone might have stolen it from their past stay. The room was very hot and unable to sleep. No fan in summer is the worst thing for a £120 hotel for 2 nights especially during a heat wave. What’s the money paid for? Overall worst experience. Will not recommend at all!

The hotel is clean, and the staff are friendly. However, it needs a major upgrade. The lift is very old, with the grill that you pull across and can only accommodate 2-3 persons. The food is very basic. The hotel was filled with over 65's.

We stayed he for a weekend in May. Great location but the rooms, whilst clean enough, look a bit tired and of need of an upgrade. Never ate at the hotel, but drinks were reasonably priced.
