About Apex Grassmarket Hotel4

Apex Grassmarket Hotel4 occupies a sizeable spot on the historic Grassmarket, one of Edinburgh's oldest streets, with 169 rooms spread across the building. Several rooms look directly out onto Edinburgh Castle, perched above the city, and the setting puts guests in the middle of the Old Town rather than on its outskirts.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, and there's a lift for easier access to the upper floors. Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar, along with an indoor swimming pool, gym, and spa/sauna for guests who want to unwind after a day of walking. Breakfast is served on site and has a strong reputation among visitors, though some have noted that room upkeep can be inconsistent. Business services, a concierge and porter service, and a dedicated wedding venue round out the practical offer, and free on-site parking is available for those driving in.

The location makes it easy to explore Edinburgh on foot, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment all close by, and Edinburgh Waverley station within easy reach for onward travel. Edinburgh Zoo is also nearby for a day out beyond the Old Town.

We stayed at Apex Grassmarket Hotel while visiting Edinburgh with our family and had an enjoyable experience overall. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and nicely appointed. The biggest drawback was the lack of air conditioning. During the warmer weather, the room was actually warmer than it was outside, which made sleeping a bit uncomfortable. The highlights of our stay were definitely the patio, the dining service, and the incredible view of Edinburgh Castle. It's hard to beat enjoying a meal or drink with such an iconic backdrop. We also really appreciated the staff's kindness and flexibility. Since we were traveling with multiple family members arriving at different times, they opened a room early so we could securely store our luggage before the rest of our family's rooms were ready. That small gesture made a big difference and got our trip off to a great start. Overall, despite the warm room, we had a pleasant stay. The friendly staff, excellent location, and unbeatable castle views make Apex Grassmarket Hotel a great choice for families visiting Edinburgh.

Loved the Scottish breakfast here!! Worth coming for alone, bacon, sausage, egg, beans, mushroom, black pudding and haggis. High quality meats too , next time would order without the watercress, that had no business being on that plate! Was booked in for 3 nights midweek, didn't pick up the tab so can't comment on price. Reception staff were friendly and an easy check in procedure. Had a beautiful room overlooking the Grassmarket with a view of the castle. Excellent bar with a choice of 4 drafts including a cider and an excellent Stewart Brewery pale ale. Only negative the bar had run out of snacks in a Thursday night. A simple ham/cheese panini took well over 30 minutes to arrive. When I queried where it was I received a very defensive (guilty) response that I'd been told it would take 45 minutes to arrive ( I hadn't been told this) Who would agree to wait in the bar for that long from 10 pm when we could have gone to one of the many venues outside and been served in a normal, acceptable time frame. I wouldn't though want to mark the hotel down as from breakfast through to the excellent bar and reception staff all was good. Id hope the hotel will look at my feedback and adequately stock the bar with snacks and improve the shambolic delivery of food from the night menu.

This hotel has a very good location to explore the city.. It looks a little bit tired but it is of a good value for money.. Breakfast is very good for what you pay.. they has a separate menu to order from plus the buffet and the menu items are really tasty. Room is so clean and the balcony is a big plus.. you can see the castle from there which looks amazing. Most of the staff were helpful.

Had a very nice stay here last week. What sets it apart is the great location (stunning views of the castle) and the service from the staff, who are all outstanding. I hadn’t been to Grassmarket before but it’s a cool location with lots of bars and restaurants, with the castle as a backdrop. The hotel itself is reasonably-priced and a great spot for exploring. 15-minute walk from Waverley Station (wear your grippy shoes for the steps!) or 5-minute taxi. My room was quite big, clean, comfy bed and had a really good sleep. Evening meal was excellent and Scottish Breakfast was good, complete with Haggis! Overall a really good one-night stay…
