The closest touring park to central Edinburgh, in parkland below the Pentlands
About Mortonhall Caravan and Camping Park
Mortonhall sits in the grounds of a former country estate on the southern edge of Edinburgh, roughly four miles from the city centre and directly beneath the Pentland Hills. A bus route runs from the gates into town, so you can spend the day on the Royal Mile and be back among mature trees and open grass by evening—the main reason most people choose what is the nearest full-facility touring park to the capital.
The site is large and well organised, with traditional grass pitches for tents alongside a substantial number of hardstandings carrying electric hook-ups. Fully serviced pitches add water and drainage connections, worth paying for if you're staying more than a couple of nights. Four amenity buildings house showers, washbasins, accessible facilities, a launderette and washing-up areas, plus a games room and TV room for wet afternoons. Beyond touring pitches, Mortonhall hires out centrally heated caravan holiday homes and wooden wigwams, each with its own barbecue stand. The Stable Bar and Restaurant on site serves food and drink, and dogs are welcome for a small nightly charge. Book well ahead for August, when Festival demand fills the park.

What visitors say
Great caravan site on the outskirts of Edinburgh (about a 4mile walk in, or a bus every 10mins). Masses of pitches ranging from a basic grass to hard standing with EHU (or shepherd huts, statics etc), they have a fabulous new toilet block but the 'older' blocks are also superb just lacking underfloor heating. Pub/restaurant on site is great, massive beer selection and I'm told the wine selection is good too, very dog friendly too.

The campsite has excellent toilet and shower facilities throughout — all are clean, modern, and very well maintained.\\nKettles and microwave are provided in the new building with a nice seating area for eating or socialising.\\n\\nPitches are generously sized, with convenient picnic benches nearby, which makes outdoor dining easy and enjoyable.\\n\\nThere’s a bus stop right outside the site, with the number 11 bus going directly into Edinburgh. A single ticket costs just £2.40, making it a really convenient and affordable option for getting into the city.\\n\\nStaff at check-in were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful, which made for a great first impression.\\n\\nOnsite restaurant and bar are convenient but best to book in advance as it gets busy.\\n\\nNearby, Beijing Banquet restaurant (EH22 1PJ) is a great option, good food, and plenty of parking, ideal for campervans.

Lovely staff, easy access and great services including nearby clean toilets and showers, and bins. only stayed for a night but overall great experience. we didn't use buses, but there were regular trips closeby. Layout is large and can be confusing, staff offer a map on arrival.
