About The Talbot Inn

The Talbot Inn stands in Selwood Street in Mells, one of Somerset's prettiest villages, around three miles from Frome and twenty minutes from Bath. Established in 1480 as a coaching inn, the building retains its cobbled courtyard and timber-framed character while its eight bedrooms have been decorated in a considered, contemporary country style, with crisp linen and locally sourced bath products.

The restaurant and bar are the heart of the property, serving seasonal British food built around ingredients from the surrounding Somerset countryside, alongside local ales and a well-chosen wine list, and the inn has become a genuine dining destination in its own right rather than simply an overnight stop.

Mells itself, with its historic church and war memorial garden designed by Edwin Lutyens, makes a quiet and picturesque base for exploring Frome, Longleat and the surrounding countryside, particularly for couples wanting a rural setting within easy striking distance of the town.

Gorgeous pub, decor stunning, menu limited. Average food sadly. Burgers and fish and chips looked amazing but I had Guenard fish which tasted good but with heaps of a tartar sauce and and bland swede with no veg unless you pay an Addiional £6 for an already expensive meal. Really expected top quality food to match the atmosphere

Stumbled across this beautiful place on a solo dog walk and left breathless. Yes, it was busy. Yes I was understanding and yes I was made sure I got fed what a fantastic host the manager was never got his name be he even got water for barley or as he put it “doggie vodka”. Food was perfect and service even better. My only complaint would be I had to finish walking Barley.

Very nice welcome which makes all the difference. Given a choice of lovely tables. Very kind to our dog. Special bowl of water brought over. Food delicious - good choice of light food and more substantial , wonderful building and setting.
