About The Den and Orchard

Tucked on the edge of the Cranborne Chase National Landscape, The Den and Orchard is a compact, family-friendly site that strikes a balance between convenience and countryside. Campers praise the spotlessly clean facilities – showers run hot, the toilet block gleams – and the helpful staff who keep everything ticking over smoothly. Well-maintained grass and gravel pitches suit tents and motorhomes alike, while a games room (darts, table football, table tennis) and decent play area keep younger visitors entertained. Free-to-borrow firepits add a relaxed, social vibe come evening, with firewood available to buy on site.

Being just outside Frome means you're only three miles from supermarkets and takeaways, and attractions like Longleat Safari Park, National Trust properties, fishing and mountain biking are all within easy reach. The flip side: you may catch some road noise at rush hour or when the wind's in the wrong direction. It's not the deepest rural hideaway, but for families wanting a clean, well-run base with quick access to Somerset's highlights, this site delivers.

A small and fairly basic site. Thankfully it was only around a quarter full when we stayed, as it would have felt quite cramped if all the pitches had been occupied. There were only two showers per gender, which would likely be an issue if the site was fully booked. The showers and toilets were clean enough, but not the best facilities we came across during our trip. The site is advertised as having a pub/clubhouse, but this was unfortunately closed during our stay, with no prior warning, which was disappointing.

Lovely camp site, super clean and very well maintained. We had a tent pitch, lots of space and we had our two Jack Russels, there is a nice dog walking area just over the road with a lake. The Lady that met us was Lovely, very friendly and helpful, will definitely be coming back

Hmm. In the spirit of an honest review. I think the owners’ hearts are in the right place. It’s handy for Frome, which is lovely. And has the basics. But it’s cramped, like camping in someone’s garden. It doesn’t have countryside views. It’s on some walking trails. There’s a pub which is not open all year. I’d say it’s perfectly fine as a base if you’re visiting the area but not a destination in and of itself, or a place to just hang out.

Stayed here over Christmas when visiting family in Frome. Stayed in the Den and can’t fault it, a fantastic little spot, lovely property, came with everything we could need, dishwasher with tablets; nespresso machine with pods, comfy beds, great heating and hot water, great shower. On top of that’s, it a great location, just outside Frome but only 5 minutes into the centre, just round the corner from Sainsbury’s, but the site feels deep in the country side. Good coms from the management, very easy to use. Would use again and recommend for almost anyone!
