We had such a lovely time at the Gem Rock Museum. The collection is so interesting and clearly loved and taken care of. We especially enjoyed the cave experience and the demonstration of fluorescent and phosphorescent minerals under different light conditions. Our son loved the quiz and alphabet game and getting a lucky dip stone at the end. The owner was really friendly and shared the story behind his Dad’s collection. Can’t recommend enough that you make the time to visit!

They have a vast array of gemstones, fossils & geodes which are beautiful & theres a lovely gemstone tree. There's a shop that sells jewellery and also loose gemstones of all kinds. They also have a cafe which sells lovely food. I had the chicken & rice soup & it was delicious. It's very clean & i visited on a Sunday, so wasn't very busy.

The Gemrock museum is a family run museum in the wee town of Creetown, 7 miles from Newton stewart in the stewarty of Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and galloway. The museum houses a trove of rocks, minerals, crystals, fossils and meteorites from our home in Scotland to countries from all over the world, mostly all authentic and some replicas of some of the world's largest cut diamonds. The museum is meticulously organised with an impressive collection of precious rocks and gems from Diamonds to opals, emeralds to jade, quartz to amethyst. Every igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock is found in the museum. It is a very visual place. Highlights include the Crystal cave with displays of crystals and minerals and a colourful display and a 5 minute narration explaining fluorescence. The professor's study which gives audio visual presentations. (See staff for times and details), a well stocked gift shop for all budgets and a cafe with a great selection of cakes, snacks, teas and coffees. Overall, the gemrock is an enjoyable, interesting, interactive and informative way to spend a few hours and definitely worth a look for both adults and kids. Entry to the museum is £7 (time of writing, September 2025)or free if you just want to use the cafe and browse the gift shop. Parking is free on the premises. The museum does not allow dogs, unless they are assistance dogs. All staff were friendly and well informed and gifts were packaged with care and an additional piece of information explaining the type of gem, mineral you have purchased is given with your souvenir. The official website itself is a good source Of information: www.gemrock.net
