Malmaison Glasgow

Have stayed in many Malmaison venues so decided to do an overnight stay in their Glasgow site paying a hiked price due to Commonwealth Games. Crucially I planned to dine in that evening and it had its menu online so I'd already decided on what to eat. On arrival, Reception advised there were no dining options due to essential maintenance in the kitchen. Felt totally ambushed as there was nothing on their website, confirmation email or any pre-notification of this. Was cheerfully advised to get a Deliveroo instead! As I have mobility issues, I had no choice but to do this. It was such a dismal feeling when I later crossed Reception to get my 'meal' from the Deliveroo driver..I was paying 4* hotel price for an Airbnb experience. I asked Reception for a plate and cutlery and didn't notice I'd been given a spoon and fork instead of knife. If I'd waited for the replacement, my sad meal would have been cold as well. Whilst accepting I was in the (off) centre of a city not a rural setting, I'd been allocated a street-level room. This meant amplified noise - up to midnight from revellers, and from 5am from diesel lorries making noisy deliveries to the Sainsbury Local across the road A truly poor night's sleep. Club Room was a good size but looked sparse, unfinished and tired. Reservation was for 2 people but room set up for one. The metal edging around the long worktable stood 'proud' of the table top making it very uncomfortable on forearms when sat at. Fridge was warm; could have been plugged in ready, and it was a struggle to get past fixed furniture to get the plug into the wall socket. Same struggle with the uplighter plug. The bathroom looked equally sad. Flipper door on shower screen had been removed leaving visible fixings, potential for trip hazard. Grubby water damage ran the entire length of floor alongside shower tray. Bottom of the bathroom door was blown from water damage too. Walk-in shower had a very high step up to get into it, but at least the tray was non-slip. Countertop basin was sat on large black empty wooden bench with two shelves below..would have looked more inviting had the extra towels been placed here rather than a cupboard with cheap door knobs back by the entrance door. The bed was good quality and king-sized. When asked the next day "was everything ok?", I took the time to politely explain all of this to Reception, and courteously out of earshot of others. I was thanked for my feedback and advised that the Manager would be advised, and to expect them to be in touch. I heard nothing. Poor show Malmaison. No more Malmaison stays for me.

We booked the private room to host a meal following our wedding ceremony, and had an amazing experience. We had been planning this event months in advance, and had been in contact with Carla, who has been excellent from day one. She has been very attentive to our requests, offering to meet us on multiple occasions and truly tailoring our night to our specific requests. On the night Alison and the rest of the team had set out our room beautifully, the space was perfect. All the staff were friendly, attentive and made sure that we were all comfortable. We had chosen our menu options in advance, and both the food and wine were truly incredible on the night. Courses were brought out to fit in around our speeches and toasts, and everything on the night ran so smoothly, leading to a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I cannot recommend this venue enough for private room hire- the staff are proactive and attentive, the space is beautiful and the food is delicious.

The place is lovely but after going for Sunday lunch it was really disappointing, we waited at the door to be seated for almost 15 mins, would have been fine with that but with plenty of staff on the floor walking past us and not one person said hello or we'll be with you soon, finally got seated and waited another 10mins for anyone to acknowledge us and offer water, food from the chef's table was bare, had to wait for refills even though there was so many staff. We had already sat down with our starter's before we could order wine, when that was brought out it was just plonked on the table in a cooler with not a work spoken to us, very rude, finally took our food order, food was lovely but the whole experience wasn't and all of the staff had their hair swinging, working with food I assume all the staff should have their hair tied up tight. Gave it another change just incase it was a bad day, we were seated quicker but the lady told us the wrong soup was available so we didn't order it, we then heard the table next to us being offered a soup that was totally different. One of us was vegetarian and when the mains came the waitress knocked the gravy boat and spilled it on the veggie dish, not wanting to complain as it was at the top of the roasted pepper, my friend ate the bottom half, this time the beef was 2 thick slices and mainly fat, ordered dessert which I had to ask for after 25mins as it was only an affogatto it shouldn't take long, apparently they forgot to make the coffee so we had defrosted ice-cream. Such a shame, this place has so many staff but no-one seems to care.
