Victorian hotel on Great Yarmouth's Marine Parade, close to the seafront, golf, fishing and watersports, with parking on site.

About Royal Hotel

Great Yarmouth's seafront, golf course, fishing spots and watersports are all within easy reach of the Royal Hotel on Marine Parade, along with pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby for evenings out. The walking areas along the front make it easy to fill a day before heading back for dinner.

The Royal Hotel itself is an old-school Victorian building with a grand ballroom, giving it a bit of period character rather than a modern makeover. Bedrooms are en suite and come with free Wi-Fi, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children. A lift serves the upper floors, and rooms can be stocked with drinks on request.

Downstairs there's a restaurant and bar, plus breakfast each morning and packed lunches for guests heading out for the day. A garden offers a quieter spot to sit, and parking is available on site. It's a straightforward, traditional base for exploring the seafront and everything around it.

So this is more of a not to the owner. So this hotel has so much potential if the owner don't just keep doing quick fixes. And also read booking requests. So as you park on the road opposite the hotel is showing its age needs Painting and new windows all over. Also need roof looking at. You walk you the stairs to a stunning rotating door that is not working at this time. It is clean but you can tell that it has got lots of work to be done. The is a bar to your left that is not open yet. If this was open and had function room up and running this would bring I. Souch income to the place. It just goes on forever. Like said it has so much potential. The place could be a 5* + place doing it slowly and not rushing to just grab a quick buck and bad reviews. So we asked for a ground or first floor room due to health reasons and was given a room on second floor. This is not the main issue. The place smells bad now we know that the place has been emptied for so long and it needs fixing up . I would personally start with pub and restaurant to get a steady income in then go floor by floor fixing up. Not doing a quick fix as we noticed in the rooms. This place like I keep saying needs a lot of money putting into it. To be a hotel that had quest like Simon cowl and billy Connolly. It shows you that it can once again. The current owner has done a very quick fix like cutting square of wallpaper and covering holes instead of filling and reading you can get a cheap lining paper and emotion paint to tidy up. The heating is on hot all the time and the temperature at the moment is hot. Simple thing like air freshener could help. The bathroom looked new and was rely nice. The room at a glance was nice but it's when you stop and look you see more and more bad things. Holes covered with paper . Bad windows stained curtains. Floors that you can play a game of gues the tune. As they creaked so bad. If this was at full running and someone was above me that the noise would drive me mad. I understand that money and things are not cheap but if you are going to buy and own a hotel like this this you need to think long term profit and not sort them. If the owner continues to go on the path like this it will close within a year. But if they take time to do things slowly and find ways to get more money in this has all the chance to be a £100+ night hotel. At the moment it's not worth the £35 a night due to small and lake care in rooms. It's the little things that make a hotel great. The only staff member we seen was a lovely man and so humble. He is a credit to the hotel. But the does not matter if the owner does not take responsibility and time to bring it up. I have come to the understanding that he owns more that have been turned around quickly and going down hill. I just hope they don't do the same here.

The room was booked through Agoda and the hotel cancelled saying maintenance was being completed on the room and that they would give a free refund. They then told Agoda they had not cancelled and refused a refund! Avoid this hotel at all costs! Rip off artists and fraudsters! Reporting to trading standards!

Booked sea view room for special weekend but asked to move as bathroom door was leaning against wall and couldn’t move so couldn’t shut it, dead fly on inside of window, masking tape on windows inside, room not been dusted, etc. was shown another room which was slightly better, but later we found windows full of cobwebs and window ledges not dusted, plug sockets didn’t work, only one cup for tea or coffee when there was two of us, and teaspoon covered in paint! Anyway, went for breakfast next morning and was ok, not hot tho. Stairs hadn’t been hoovered, nowhere dusted, and don’t take any notice of the photos on website because the courtyard is disgusting. Not been used for years. Dirty, rubbish lying around and pigeons everywhere. Admittedly the new owner did try to make amends when we complained but we won’t be coming back. I agree with the other reviews on here. The hotel is old, dirty, smelly, needs a complete refurbishment. Bar isn’t open. We only saw one waiter doing breakfast in dining room. Didn’t see cleaner at all. I’ll try and upload photos of the room(s) we were given but if I can’t, please don’t waste your money on this hotel. It closed during the pandemic, and shouldn’t have re opened without a complete refurbishment. There are much better ones in Great Yarmouth. Even Premier Inn is better than this.

Dirtiest hotel ever. The hotel smells like a second hand shop.had to move rooms twice,1st room had plaster falling off the ceiling and the sink was leaking, second room hadn't been cleaned from the previous occupants. The third room was better except shower head wouldn't stay up ,but couldn't be bothered to complain again. The breakfast was cold the first two mornings so didn't try a third. The only positive I can give this hotels is that the staff was very good, Julie on reception couldn't do enough to help and the location was excellent. I won't be going back EVER and would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone
