Babbling Brook Lodge

Trawsfynydd sits deep in Eryri National Park, where the landscape rolls between mountain and forest. Babbling Brook Lodge occupies this quiet corner of Gwynedd, its name taken from the small stream that runs through the garden—unfenced, so worth noting if you have young children. The detached wooden building is yours alone, with parking for one car on site and Wi-Fi to stay connected if you need it.

Ground-floor living means everything is on one level: an open-plan room combining kitchen, dining and sitting areas with a wood-effect electric heater and Freeview TV; two bedrooms (one double, one with bunks); and a shower room. The kitchen has what you need to cook properly—oven, hob, microwave, fridge and freezer—rather than token equipment. Bed linen and towels come as standard, along with electricity. One well-behaved dog stays free.

This works well for families or small groups after somewhere quieter than a resort village. Beddgelert, with its walking trails, is a short drive away; Snowdon and the mountain railway are accessible for day trips; and Portmeirion's Italian-style gardens sit on the coast to the south. Coed y Brenin Forest offers woodland walks and trails closer to hand. The garden itself, beside the stream, gives you space to sit outside.
