Hotel du Vin Harrogate

This is a beautiful hotel from the moment you walk in. Calm and relaxed yet smart and very comfortable. We had a gorgeous spacious room in the attic, with living area, and a bathroom with side by side baths, and a double shower, such a treat. Chocolates, coffee machine, and beautiful toiletries, and robes, whats not to love? Thank you to the staff who looked after us so well.

I treated a friend to an outing in Harrogate for afternoon tea at Hotel du vin (as pre wedding gift) and had booked it through ‘Yorkshire Food Guide’ and got a small discount on the usual price. On arrival the restaurant staff said straight away “are you here on the Wowcher deal “ which was a bit of a surprise 🤣…and also made it feel really cheap! We booked it on a weekday and we were the only ones in the restaurant - okay but lacking any atmosphere. The service was very slow and basic level and the afternoon tea itself was okay, however I felt that this really wasn’t the best experience I’d hoped for. I’ve always liked Hotel du vin but feel they could have improved their service.

Very pleasant hotel on the south side of Harrogate Town centre, overlooking the Stray. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathroom had a free standing bath (in the window) and a separate large rainfall shower that actually works and provides plenty of water. An additional hand-held would have been welcome, though. The rooms don't have air on and although this is England, the addition would sometimes be useful. The bar/lounge area is comfortable and the patio seating just outside is a great place for sipping a cocktail. The staff are consistently pleasant and helpful.

We've been visiting this hotel for over 20 years on and off (and got married there in 2008). Over that time it has gradually lost a lot of the old HduV character as the Malmaison corporate style becomes more embedded. We stayed there last weekend (to celebrate our wedding anniversary) and ate in the bistro. Whilst overall things were perfectly acceptable the service in the bistro left a lot to be desired. It took 40 minutes from the time we sat down to get a drink, by which point we'd nearly finished our starters. The waitress was clearly unused to serving wine, she opened the bottle without showing me then poured it into the wrong glass for tasting. Small details but I was spending over £130 for my second choice of wine of an unknown vintage (the list, which is a shadow of its former self, no longer shows the year). Even though the restaurant was very quiet (I think there were only three tables occupied) neither my first choice of starter or main was available. As an alternative main I asked about the market fish and was told it was just a sea bass fillet with nothing else, I ordered that and a couple of sides. In the event a whole fish arrived with fennel and shallots, quite a full plate, so I didn't bother with the sides. When the table was cleared they were taken away, clearly untouched, without comment. Overall a very disappointing experience. Next morning we had breakfast at Bettys across the road where we were reminded what good service looks like.
