About Kilverts Hotel

Kilverts Hotel occupies an Edwardian building in the centre of Hay-on-Wye, combining a traditional pub with 12 en-suite bedrooms, each individually decorated to complement the character of the property while providing modern comforts. It is a family-run business with a relaxed, dog-friendly approach that has earned it a loyal following among regular visitors to the town.

The pub side of the business serves home-cooked food built around locally sourced ingredients, with a seasonal menu and weekly specials, alongside a bar offering local ales, ciders and a broad range of spirits and wines. A beer garden adds outdoor seating for warmer months, and the whole operation has a community feel that reviewers, including national guides, have picked out as one of its strengths.

Its central position means the bookshops, castle and restaurants of Hay are all within a short stroll, making Kilverts a practical choice for anyone wanting to explore the town on foot without needing a car once they've arrived. It suits visitors who want a proper pub atmosphere alongside their overnight stay.

Went for lunch as 3 and had 3 lovely meals, the homemade chips were particularly tasty. Was busy with a nice buzz but still plenty space. Very reasonable prices and quite possibly the nicest beer garden I’ve ever been too with plenty shade/ seating, flowered pathways and even garden games!

I ordered my meal (chicken strips and chips) and only the chips were served. My brother went and asked where the chicken strips were and the waiter said it didn’t go through so had to pay again. The chicken was very soft and the coating was very bland so I couldn’t eat them. The waiter took them to the chef they returned and said the chef said they were fine and would not offer a refund. Very disappointed

Family went to the restaurant we ordered smt v simple. It ended pretty poorly, with the staff being less than sympathetic. We managed to get it dealt with, but was v bad. Some of the food we got was good. Hence not 1 star.

It was OK. The whole place needs updating. The table service was good but the food was really very average..the kind of thing a relative who isn't a great cook might provide. Also the wine glasses are dirty. I returned the first glass..the rim was mucky...the bar staff quickly replaced it with a fresh but equally mucky glass. clearly not bothered about actually ensuring it was clean. I had lost the will at that moment. It was a Sunday evening..always a bad time to eat at places like this. We are up and were glad to get out, to be perfectly honest.
