The Penellen guest accommodation room only

I stayed few days in The Penellen over Easter. The view from windows is amazing. Rooms are clean and well maintained. There's pub and shop down the road. There's also selection of snacks and drinks you can purchase inside The Penellen. Owners are lovely and friendly. Well recommended

We booked the apartment at the Penellen Guest Accommodation, 64 Riviere Towans, St Ives, Hayle from 14 to 22 February 2026. This was meant to be a relaxing family vacation over the half-term break. We used Booking.com, and paid in full (non-refundable) at the time of booking. We received the booking confirmation and a message from Paula with directions and instructions, and wishing us a fabulous stay. All good so far - or so we thought! We later received a message from the accommodation, saying they were going to cancel our booking, claiming they hadn't received payment from us! I replied to advise them our booking was fully paid, to which they responded saying we would need to pay them additional money, or they would cancel our booking. I immediately contacted Booking.com customer services, who confirmed that our payment had been successful, and the booking was fully paid. They confirmed the accommodation would receive payment from Booking.com in the usual way, and that they should not be asking us for additional money. Booking.com described their actions as "totally unacceptable". Booking.com tried to contact them on multiple occasions to resolve the issue, but they did not answer or return their calls straight away. We were then left in a position where Penellen refused to honour our fully paid non-refundable booking because it seems they had apparently priced their accommodation incorrectly on Booking.com. However, the price we paid was not unreasonably low, considering that it was a cold, wet week in the middle of February, with lots of accommodation still available at a similar price point. The decent thing would have been for them to apologise for their mistake and honour the booking, but they refused to do either. Booking.com eventually offered us relocation, due to the accommodation's failure, but this was a massive headache for us, and ended up taking many hours of calls and emails to receive reimbursement. All in all, this whole saga has wasted well over 10 hours of my time, because of their mistake. I was appalled with how Penellen essentially tried to pin their mistake on us, by claiming that we had not paid, and then did absolutely nothing to help resolve it. I thoroughly regret ever making the booking at Penellen, and I will certainly never book to stay here again!

Me and my partner had the best two nights stay at this fabulous property in the most beautiful location. The views from the room are phenomenal and have to be seen to b3 fully appreciated. Barbara the host was perfect and one of the most friendly people you can hope to meet. The room was perfect and the complimentary breakfast assortment provided was amazing for a room only basis. We will definitely be back and can't recommend this establishment enough. Thanks for a perfect stay.
