About Hallbarns Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast

Out among the fields and lanes around Hexham, Hallbarns Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast keeps its rural roots in plain view, with horse stables and a walled garden forming part of the working farm setting. It's the kind of place where the countryside itself is the main attraction, rather than anything laid on for effect.

The four rooms are simple and unfussy rather than plush, which suits the farmhouse character but won't appeal to anyone after a more polished finish. Breakfast is served on-site, and there's a bar and restaurant for evening meals, alongside free WiFi, a garden to sit out in, and free on-site parking for those arriving by car.

Beyond the farm gate, Alston Moor Golf Club gives golfers a reason to linger, and a Hadrian's Wall shuttle runs from the property, making it a practical base for exploring the Roman frontier without needing your own transport. It's a straightforward, countryside stay for guests who want Hexham's history on their doorstep and don't mind rooms that keep things basic.

We stayed there for one night. The rooms are okay and clean. We booked over an agency and that included a pickup, because the B&B is very remote. Because of a misunderstanding about the meeting point, the hostess was very unfriendly to us, and she really treated us, like naughty schoolgilrs. We apologized several times, but she ignored it. This behaviour was hard to accept! Sinne there are on Restaurants in the area, we ordered the optional Dinner in the B&B. It was a soup, chicken with vegetables and a Pudding. It was a simple and not very tasty meal and it costs us 32,50£ each with a cider. This was absolutely overrated. Her husband was very friendly and took us back to our trail. We would not come again.

An amazing find for my HWP walk in January 2026. On arrival, my wet clothing and boots were immediately put in the dry room and the hosts straight away made me feel like I was at home. Food was delicious and plentiful and I had a great night’s sleep. I could not recommend this place enough and will look forward to a return in sunnier climates 👍🏼👍🏼

Perfect stopover on our walk of Hadrian's Wall. Tracey is a fantastic host, cooking delicious 3 course evening meal on request, full English breakfast and packed lunch for the onward journey. Nothing was too much trouble. Room was cosy, comfy and felt like home. The bath was much appreciated too! As was the kind offer to pick us up from Chesters when we arrived then back to the wall the following morning. We would definitely return next time we're in the area and recommend this to others.

Such a fantastic welcome and the most lovely hosts. From the moment we arrived we were so well looked after - our wet walking gear whisked away to be dried out, served a beautiful evening meal. The beds were comfy and the breakfast was as good as the evening meal with plenty food for hungry walkers!
