About The Coach And Horses
A wide selection of drinks at the bar is one of the first things people notice about The Coach And Horses, a traditional hotel on Priestpopple in Hexham. The building leans into its coaching-inn character while offering the practical extras of a modern stay, and its position in the town makes it a straightforward base for exploring Hadrian's Wall and the surrounding heritage sites of Northumberland.
Rooms are en-suite, clean and comfortably sized, with air conditioning and drinks available in-room, along with free WiFi throughout. Breakfast is a strong point and generally well regarded, while the on-site restaurant also serves kids' meals, though some evening dishes have been reported as overcooked or tough, so expectations should be tempered accordingly. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, and the hotel welcomes dogs, making it a comfortable choice for guests travelling with pets.
Beyond the bedrooms, facilities extend to a gym, meeting rooms and business services, plus laundry service, luggage storage and 24-hour reception for those passing through at odd hours. Free on-site parking is provided, and the local area offers golf, horse riding, watersports and walking, alongside nearby pubs and restaurants for evenings out beyond the hotel's own kitchen.

What guests say
The staff at Coach and Horses are incredible and made us feel incredibly welcome. Jo went out of her way to organize a taxi for us, ensuring we made it to and from a family wedding with no issues. The room was lovely and very quiet, no issues of noise coming from the pub at all. We will definitely stay again if ever back in Hexam. The location was perfect for grabbing the bus to visit Hadrian’s Wall, and for walking about in town for meals and shopping. It’s so close to the train station as well. Highly recommend!

The Coach & Horse is situated in the heart of Hexham and if traveling by bus the main bus station is a mere few mins walk ! Walk out of bus station and cross the crossing and keep to you right and head up towards the main road and you will find it on your right hand side. When you walk in the main entrance there is a very cosy quiet area to you left, should you wish for a little me time. And to your left is the main bar and here you will find the check in desk, this is a very easy process, and you will be guided through a few things of the hotel before taking your key. (Check in from 2pm ) The bar offers a wide selection of drinks and is served with a smile. The room I stayed in (3) was spacious with subdued lighting, with a writing desk and chair, note pad, tea/coffee facilities are also provided. Breakfast is served from 07.30 - 9am at the sister hotel (The County) walk out of The Coach & Horse and look to your left right next to the tall trees, there is a side street and the entrance and is clearly signed. Once you have entered the The County Hotel by the side entrance, make your way through the doors and head forward, you will be met by the kind and polite member of staff who will direct you to the breakfast room. There is a full English & Vegetarian breakfast available, with tea/Coffee came in a cafetiere, and there is a full breakfast menu on your table should you wish to look at. The chap who served my breakfast was polite and asked me for my choices, great service ( can't say much more only met him this once ) The staff at the Coach & Horses are polite and curtious and above all kind with a warm smile, and should you ever find yourself in beautiful Hexam and wishing to stay overnight or maybe a few days, then I would heartedly recommend The Coach & Horses. So thank you to the all the staff at Coach & Horse for a great stay, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon ( that won't be long then will it) And for the purpose of this review I have attached both sets of pictures from the Coach & Horses along with The County Hotel breakfast room.

Lovely little pub, dog friendly, friendly staff, board games to pass the time, pool table, and a lovely sun trap beer garden. Pints are about £6 but to be expected for location.

Stay in double room on 17th January 2026. Parking is a little tricky but there are locations very close by and staff are very helpfull. Room and bathroom clean. Breakfast served from 8 to 10 in sister hotel across road ( 2 min walk) comprising fruit, cornflakes etc , plus full english as was very good. Lady looking after breakfast room was awsome. Would be happy to go back.
