Hawthorn Farm - Walnut Cottage

Photo: Hawthorn farm guest house

Buxton sits at the heart of the High Peak, surrounded by walking country and within reach of Chatsworth, Castleton's caverns, and the Goyt Valley. The town itself has gardens, an opera house, and plenty of cafés and pubs. Walnut Cottage is a bed and breakfast on a quiet cul-de-sac minutes from the centre on foot, where you can park two cars and use the EV charging point if needed.

The whole place is yours alone. Downstairs holds a living room with Smart TV, a kitchen equipped for proper cooking, and a ground-floor bedroom with a zip-and-link super kingsize (or twin beds on request) and an ensuite bathroom with shower over bath. Upstairs is a second double bedroom with its own shower room. Outside, there's a patio and garden with furniture. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are all included. No smoking throughout.

Guests consistently praise the rooms as spotless and comfortable, the breakfast as generous and full English, and the helpful approach of the people running it. One dog is welcome.

I was very disappointed to discover that this is not a farm. There were no fields for miles and my sister and I prefer the country. There were no gardens to overlook. Our outside sitting area comprised 2 broken chairs that overlooked the carpark! The rooms were very nice and clean but too small to sit in comfortably. Unfortunate, but the house itself is very tired looking. Would not recommend it.

This place is for sale. The owners have lost all interest in giving any type of service for your money at all. We booked two quiet rooms overlooking the garden, and we got two rooms overlooking a noisy carpark, with dying plants in broken planters. The place needs a good clean-up and is pretty revolting. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. Don't let them catch you out like they caught us out.

A lovely warm and nicely decorated room in a great, quiet location easily within walking distance to Buxton. The shower was lovely and we had a great night's sleep. The owners were very friendly and helpful and cooked a fantastic breakfast in the morning. You couldn't really ask for more!

Stayed in the self catering cottage Walnut Cottage. Great welcome pack, very clean and tidy, good quality bed linen and towels. Helpful and friendly hosts. Well located a short walk from the centre of Buxton and all its attractions. We would definitely stay here again.
