Capercaillie Cottage sits on a working croft in Sutherland, a converted stone farmhouse over 200 years old with 2ft-thick walls and views across open hillside. The ground-floor layout centres on a large open-plan living space with a wood burner at one end and a contemporary kitchen at the other, flowing into a dining area. Both bedrooms are doubles with their own en-suite facilities—the first has a roll-top bath and shower, the second a shower room nearby. Bed linen, towels, electricity and wifi are all included, along with logs for the burner and a welcome pack.
Outside, a private hot tub sits on elevated decking overlooking the croftland, with an enclosed one-acre garden where dogs can run free (though they must be on lead across the wider grounds due to livestock). The cottage sleeps four and welcomes up to three dogs at no extra cost. An electric vehicle charging point is available for a small meter charge. The setting suits those wanting genuine isolation rather than village amenities—the nearest named landmark is Banscol Kennels—though the kitchen is well-equipped enough for self-catering. Note that the decking has two steps, and there is a fenced pond adjacent to the garden.

Have just returned from a delightful stay at Capercaillie Cottage:) On arrival we were met with a blazing fire, cosy house, a welcome pack plus fresh eggs from the croft's hens. The cottage is fitted out to a very high standard. Super comfy beds & seating, fully equipped kitchen, plus maps, books,DVDs & toys. Eimear & Mackie have clearly put alot of thought into how they can make their guests' stay as comfortable as possible. Attention to detail is evident everywhere - from heated bath towels in the mornings to a torch on hand should you need one at night. Our hosts were also on hand with advice & local knowledge on what to do in the area & there is lots to do! The West coast is also within easy reach & we enjoyed a great day out there in glorious autumn sunshine. But its not all about the great outdoors & and having an action packed holiday. We enjoyed some fabulous weather but Capercaille is just so comfortable that a rainly day spent relaxing by the fire , reading a book or just enjoying the views can be just as appealing and the night sky with no light pollution is just amazing - we even saw a shooting star on our first night! Contrats & thanks to Eimear & Machie for making Capercaille such an idealic holiday destination.

Absolutely stunning location. Peace and quiet and a beautifully presented cottage. Highly recommended for families wanting to get away from it all for a while.
