🏡 Self-Catering Cottage

Carness West

Photo: Nadia Schembri

Carness West suits families and small groups wanting a private base for Highland activities. The house sleeps five across three bedrooms—a kingsize with ensuite, a second kingsize, and a single—plus two bathrooms. You get the place to yourself, with private parking for two cars and enclosed grounds. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; the woodburner's initial fuel is too.

The layout makes the most of its setting. Upstairs, an open-plan space combines living, dining and kitchen areas with French doors opening to two balconies; one has sitting-out furniture where mountain views dominate. The kitchen is equipped for cooking, while a woodburner, Freeview TV and DVD player occupy the living areas. Steep spiral stairs connect the floors. Downstairs holds the three bedrooms, bathrooms, and a utility room with washing and tumble drying. A travel cot and highchair are available if needed.

Hill walking, climbing, golf, fishing and kayaking are all within reach from here. A pub stands a mile away and a shop three miles; locally there are craft outlets and a visitor centre. The house sits close to Loch Leven. Note that smoking is not permitted.

Brilliant location, it's picturesque I've spent some of the happiest days of my life here. Plenty to do and obviously backs on to the river good supply of games and books of the local area. We had a visit from two different pine Martins probably the best get away so far it was Christmas time when we stayed so it was even more magical.
