Watercolour

The Ardnamurchan Peninsula draws walkers, wildlife watchers and those seeking remote Highland scenery. Watercolour sits in this landscape near Ardgour, a semi-detached property with parking on site and a quarter-acre gravelled garden of its own. The 5-acre grounds around it are shared, giving a sense of space without total isolation. One dog is welcome to stay at no extra cost.

Inside, there are three bedrooms sleeping up to six: a double, two single beds, and a room with bunk beds; two bathrooms serve the property. The ground floor holds a living room with TV and DVD player, a second sitting room without a screen, dining room, and kitchen equipped for cooking from scratch. Underfloor heating warms the ground floor, while oil central heating covers the rest of the house. Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. A utility room with washer-dryer is there if you need it. Note that the stairs are steep and narrow in places.

Ardgour village is within reach, with shops 4 miles away and a pub and restaurant 3 miles off. Local food producers and artisan makers operate nearby. The Glenfinnan viaduct lies 35 minutes' drive south. Walks, fishing and golf are all within the region. The property draws musicians and writers as well as families—it adjoins a working recording studio—and suits anyone wanting a quiet base to explore both peninsula and inner islands. Supermarket deliveries can be arranged to the area. Smoking is not permitted inside.
