We had a really lovely 3-night self-catering stay at The Observatory. Susan and Robert were very welcoming and had provided a wide collection of supplies and additions to help us enjoy the holiday, including a fruit basket carefully adjusted for our allergies, a collection of varied cooking essentials like tin foil and oil, birdwatching tools such as binoculars and bird recognition guides, and some extremely useful annotated maps of the local footpaths and pubs. They were also happy to provide additional advice about the hiking nearby and to provide lots of other local knowledge. This is a great base for walkers, birdwatchers and lovers of peace and quiet. There is very little light pollution near the site and a huge field to the side, so weather allowing this is an excellent site for night photography. We also strongly recommend the boating available from the Riverside Tea Rooms along the river towards Amberley. Parking on site is available, but the site is entirely reachable on foot from Amberley station. Transportation to/from the station may also be possible for walkers at either end of your stay, so do ask for availability!

We would highly recommend a stay in The Observatory. The views are amazing to wake up to and the room is cosy & warm. Susan & Robert are so friendly and go out of their way to make your stay memorable, especially catering for all dietary requirements. We will never forget our beautiful stay.

Had a wonderful two night stay the second weekend of February 2025 - Susan and Robert were extremely accommodating of the fact I had to arrive late on the Friday night due to work, and made me feel welcome and at ease. I stayed in the Swan and River room, which was beautifully made up and very comfortable (and with an excellent view!), and Susan gave me plenty of information both prior to arrival and on arrival for what I could do in the area during my time there. Breakfast was delightful and brought to my room in a hamper at an arranged time, and the common areas of the A Barn were available for relaxation and additional tea and coffee supplies if I needed them. They're conveniently located for walks and also exploring Amberley, and I left feeling refreshed and will definitely be letting friends and family know about this gem.

Susan and Robert welcomed us and were super nice and friendly. They gave us all the info we needed regarding the room and the area. The room is spacious, comfortable, and fully equipped with everything possible. Susan pays attention to the smallest, and her homemade breakfast was our best. The view from the room is breathtaking! Cannot wait to come back.
