About The Antidote

A townhouse property on Saint James Place, The Antidote combines adults-only guest accommodation with a restaurant that does most of the talking. Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks available in room, and free WiFi, while 24 hour reception means arrivals and requests are handled at any hour.

The kitchen is the property's strongest suit, turning out imaginative dishes such as cheese soufflé, chicken breast and sea bream, served in a relaxed setting that guests find good value for the standard of cooking. There's a bar for drinks before or after dinner, outdoor seating to make the most of fine weather, and breakfast included to start the day. Staff are attentive without hovering, keeping service efficient but unhurried.

Ilfracombe's coastline is close at hand, with walking and cycling routes nearby along with watersports, fishing, golf and horse riding for those wanting to get out and about. Pubs and other restaurants in the area give further options once you've explored what's on the property's own menu.

We had one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time last night. We didn’t stay in the rooms. It was a lovely friendly atmosphere and it was a 4 course meal. We both had cheese soufflé and the sea bream. We’ve never had a soufflé before but it was so light and fantastic flavour. The sea bream with its sauce was equal in flavour. It’s made our week’s holiday in Berrynarbor complete. If you like lovely food this is the place to go. The owner was friendly and interesting would definitely go again

Staying for a short break in Ilfracombe and fancied a nice meal out, sadly the restaurant was fully booked. The owner Sarah asked if we were available should there be a cancellation, which we were, luckily we had an email saying that a table was available next day which we confirmed. We are so glad we did, the four course meal was sublime, quality ingredients cooked perfectly and very efficient service without being rushed. We thoroughly recommend this gem of a restaurant if you are lucky enough to get a table.

Outstanding meal, brilliant service, good ambience. So good we went twice during our weeklong stay in north Devon. Paul and Sarah offer a wonderful menu, flawlessly presented. For starters, we can recommend both the soufflé and trout tartar; different fish dishes for main course on both days were delicious; and the chocolate ganache to finish was outstanding. No weak elements. Worth traveling for.

Absolutely perfect accommodation! The bathroom was massive, has its own lock and well insulated. There is a private outdoor seating area and the bed is super soft and comfortable. Most importantly the room was very clean! New appliances and even a coffee maker. Will definitely be coming to stay again!
