About Royal Britannia Hotel
Ilfracombe's harbour, coastal paths and North Devon's beaches are all close by when staying at the Royal Britannia Hotel on Broad Street, with golf, fishing and watersports nearby for those wanting to fill their days, and pubs and restaurants dotted around town for the evenings. Entertainment nearby means there's usually something going on without needing to travel far.
The hotel itself has 27 rooms, including family rooms and en-suite bathrooms, many with sea views over the harbour. Guests can expect a restaurant and bar on site, breakfast included, drinks available in room, free WiFi and 24 hour reception, with a garden to sit out in when the weather allows. Pets are welcome, and the hotel also hosts weddings.
Food gets a good word, with breakfast and the restaurant menu both praised, and the staff are generally described as friendly and welcoming. That said, some visitors have found the rooms in need of better upkeep and service occasionally inconsistent, so it suits guests more interested in location and views than polish. Luggage storage is available for those exploring further afield before or after their stay.

What guests say
Awful overpriced, run down, tatty (I could go on). Friendly helpful bar staff but unfriendly abrupt manager. Booked via Booking.com and the booking was completely confused only one room matched to booking. Charged extra for a pre booked dog. We paid less for much nicer in Croyde the same weekend. Would not recommend.

Wonderful, homely and friendly hotel in the most ideal location! Booked with a Groupon voucher in March and couldn’t have been better. Amazing value. The room was spotless, had plenty of room for us both and smelt lovely and fresh - really comfy bed! Loved all the quirky and historic features throughout the hotel too. We ate dinner on the first night and had breakfast all three mornings, food was delicious with plenty of veggie options for me and meaty options for my partner all cooked perfectly and nice big plates. Staff were all super polite friendly and cheerful and all the other guests we met were chatty and friendly too. Location was perfect, had a little walk on the sandy beach every morning after breakfast and there are plenty of shops around, we were on a budget and there is a Lidl (with bakery) just 10 minutes walk and a Spoons and chip shop even closer, bus stop was right around the corner too. Explored some breath taking parts of the SW coast path too which were just easy to follow and well maintained. No idea why this hotel has had some of the negative reviews it has, can only think it’s from people used to staying in the same Holiday Inns time and time again who like to have no character or history where they visit. Thank you so much guys we had a lovely time, feeling very refreshed and happy after our stay with you don’t change a thing : )

Our last night on holiday in Ilfracombe we fancied sitting by the harbour, went into this local pub and it was the most unwelcomeing pub I have ever visited. The bar was empty and I could see why. The bar man was so unfriendly, we asked what local ales they had, just a flat "none" and just turned his back and carried on putting glasses away. Out of all the pubs in Ilfracombe this one is the least busy, and can understand why. It could be so much more but if the staff don't care about customer service then we'll need I say more
