About Persabus Farm Campsite
Persabus Farm Campsite sits on a working cattle and sheep farm above Port Askaig, with panoramic views across the Sound of Islay to Jura's distinctive Paps. This is genuinely no-frills camping on open ground—facilities extend to a toilet and wash-hand basin only, so it's best suited to those comfortable without showers—but the farm's hospitality more than compensates. Each morning, campers are welcomed into the farmhouse kitchen for a cooked breakfast roll (typically egg, bacon and potato scone) included in the pitch fee, a warmth that makes up for the basic ablutions.
Space is limited and booking ahead by phone is essential, since the site runs alongside the farm's day-to-day operations. Port Askaig's ferry terminal, shop and hotel are just minutes away, and Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila distilleries lie a short drive up the coast. It's an excellent spot for exploring Islay's quieter northern reaches and catching an early ferry to Jura, away from the busier distillery villages to the south.

We are at the end of our stay on Persabus and we are so sad to be leaving. 😭 From start to finish it has been amazing, Rosemary and Donald are wonderful hosts, the room is spacious and clean, the bed is comfortable and I can honestly say I feel rested for the first time in months. Our room was attached to the main property but we had our own access through a separate entrance, Islay is amazing and Persabus is right en route to Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila and Ardnahoe distilleries that are over this side of the island. The Persabus Pottery is beautiful and we picked up a number of pieces to gift family and friends. We cannot wait to return!

Donald and Rosemary could not have been more wonderful hosts. The farmhouse is enchanting and the setting is perfect. My wife and I spent 10 days in Scotland with two other friends, and all four of us agreed Persabus was our favorite place we stayed the whole trip. It's convenient to the ferry and a short drive to restaurants, distilleries, and other things on the island. We were able to walk from Caol Ila our first night there. We had a wonderful time, and definitely will be back when we return to Islay.

So the rooming was a bit of a mix up so we got the Persabus Millhouse. They were so nice despite the mix-up and gave us a discount because of the confusion. Donald was absolutely adorable and each day he came with breakfast with freshly pressed coffee and the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had! He also knew the best places to visit during our stay and exactly where to eat. We also had a change to our ferry leaving the island and Donald was on it! He not only knew about the change but where the new ferry was leaving from and when. The rooms were so warm and welcoming and there is a small farm with a super cute horse nearby. We would 100% stay again. Donald if you read this review it is Cole and Jess, the honeymooners, and we can't thank you enough for the best honeymoon ever!

Just come back from a wonderful long weekend on Islay (our first visit) and so pleased we chose to stay at Persabus in the B&B suite. Rosemary and Donald are lovely owners and were extremely helpful with suggestions on places to eat which was particularly helpful with us staying off season! Location perfect for walking to Ardnahoe and Bunnahabhain distilleries. Absolutely delicious bacon (and tattie scone!) rolls and coffee every morning. Very comfy bed. I can’t fault it. Will be our base for inevitable future visits. Thank you so much.
