This Victorian cottage sits in Ventnor, one of the sunniest spots on the Isle of Wight. Built in the era when seaside holidays were just becoming fashionable, it has the character to match—compact and deliberately arranged to make the most of every room. The ground floor holds a living and dining space opening onto a south-facing garden, where sea views reward an afternoon's rest. The kitchen is modern enough for actual cooking: electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and washing machine. There's a bathroom with bath and shower downstairs, and a separate toilet upstairs serves the bedrooms. Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are all included.
Accommodation is two bedrooms and one bathroom, sleeping five. The first bedroom has a double bed; the second holds bunk beds and a single, suitable for children. The enclosed courtyard garden has seating and direct access to footpaths leading down to Wheelers Bay and the coastal path within two minutes' walk. The town centre is close by, with its beach, esplanade, small shops and gardens. No smoking throughout.

What guests say
Despite many positives (sea view from garden, well equipped kitchen, smartly modernised (though rather stark) rooms, we were driven to distraction by the ridiculous self closing doors. To say they slam would be an understatement. They close with explosive force. Self closers are not needed in a two storey house. And they also led to complaints from the neighbour who said they were shaking her walls. This was all too much for us so we cut our holiday short. The owner needs to sort these stupid doors. We won’t be coming back.
