About SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course

SCHLOSS Roxburghe occupies a grand nineteenth-century mansion and its surrounding estate a few miles south-west of Kelso, and is the only five-star hotel in the immediate area. The historic Manor House holds twenty individually decorated rooms and suites, while a newer Estate House wing adds a further fifty-eight contemporary rooms and suites, giving the property a scale unusual for a country house hotel of this style. A collection of self-catering cottages on the estate rounds out the accommodation for larger groups or longer stays.

The estate's championship golf course, designed by Dave Thomas, is the main draw for many guests, and is complemented by a 600 square metre spa with an outdoor heated infinity pool, treatment rooms and a range of country sports including fishing on the estate's own stretch of the Teviot. Multiple dining venues cover everything from formal country house dining to more relaxed clubhouse food, and children's activities are available for family stays.

Now part of the Destination by Hyatt collection, the hotel holds AA five-star status and Forbes Travel Guide recognition, reflecting a level of service and finish well above the rest of the Kelso area. Its position close to both Edinburgh and Newcastle, each around an hour's drive away, makes it a workable base for exploring the wider Borders as well as a destination in its own right for a golfing or spa break.

Lovely hotel with great ambiance in the bars and public areas. Staff very professional and friendly. Room spacious and beds comfy (estate room). Knocked one star off as the food was fine (Charlies) but not exceptional (for the price). The spa area is lovely but just teas and water to drink. It would be nice to get a glass of fizz when in the spa area. Heated outdoor pool is lovely (it is not huge and there is no indoor pool). There is a small outdoor hot tub too plus sauna and plunge pool. Great breakfast menu

Great hotel for a relaxed stay. The rooms are lovely and are of a good standard. The breakfast was good but have had better in other hotels. The fresh fruit wasn't the best quality, there was no greek yoghurt and we had to wait a while to order tea and coffee. The cooked selection was very good. The outdoor spa was the reason that we went to this hotel but were disappointed when one of the saunas was shut on both days. The check in staff didn't know about this, I felt we should have been told at check in. The pool is lovely and the relaxation room has a selection of different beds. The tea and dried fruit was a lovely touch. The cold plunge after the sauna was very welcome! I would suggest that the pool / outdoor area needs a bit of attention as the steps up to the pool were very dirty and there was loose paving stones. The food in Charlie's is good but I had to send my fish back as it was almost raw. They did replace it without an issue.

I stayed two nights at Schloss Roxburghe as a retreat to use the spa and relax. I was upgraded to the castle suite, which was very spacious and well appointed. The castle itself is beautiful inside and out. Its located on a sprawling 300 acre grounds complete with golf course for outside recreation. They offer complimentary breakfast for everyone with a robust buffet and a menu to order directly from the kitchen as well. Overall very good, but seemed to struggle with a few basics like bringing out a hot beverage request at the beginning of the meal. The buffet is served in the main restaurant called Charlie's. I had dinner there my first night. The food was good and offered a decent variety of options. The cocktails were inventive but lighter pours than what one might expect. There is a well equipped gym with great strength training options and cardio. The gym is located just outside the spa. The spa is spacious and a central draw for both visitors and locals. There is an outside pool, sauna, cold plunge and hot tub to soak away your anxieties. An overall charming and wonderful experience.

SCHLOSS Roxburghe is a wonderful destination for anyone looking to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Scottish countryside. The peaceful atmosphere, stunning surroundings, and exceptional service made it a memorable stay. The spa was absolutely amazing, and the views from the pool overlooking the countryside were simply breathtaking. The golf experience was fantastic, and the shooting activities were well organized and great fun. The room was beautifully designed and very comfortable, although it was a little on the smaller side. Overall, it was an outstanding experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious and relaxing getaway.
